Following on from this thread :

http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&a...

And that lovely Volvo 940 with 300k mentioned yesterday, I thought we could have a thread dedicated to cars for sale with mega mileages.

Feel free to contribute with your own cars / stories etc smile

Neither actually look that bad!

It would be interesting to buy something like this and see how long you could run it for before it threw a massive bill at you.

Would be nice to show these to the "cars become unreliable after 50k" brigade hehe

Thats GOT to be a typo?

I know its not for sale, but:

It does go to show that with careful driving and proper (maybe pre emptive) maintenance that cars will go on for mega mileages.
I've seen TDI land rovers do nearly 600k by having oil changed at half-intervals + some slick 50

A Laguna with 285k?

http://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/2012...

Or a mk4 Astra at 233k? I think this is more of an achievement as my Astra with the same engine was dead at 75k!

This probably doesn't count, but My then 6 year old A6 in 2007 with 140k on the clocks when I had it for sale, the only sign of the mileage was a worn through drivers mat.

It could have easily passed for a 30k car.

That A6 looks fantastic! Did you see the news article in the other thread about an A6 2.8 Quattro (older one than yours) that is on over 500k still with original engine and gearbox?

What engine was in your one?

Lovely car smile

Wow. My parents had one that they ran to 130k. It never went wrong, but I remember it getting more and more rattly every time I came home from uni and drove it.

Yeah, read about it in the other thread.

The guy that came to buy the A6 was questioning if it had miles actually added to it laugh

Wonder what sort of mileage the previous owner was doing on a monthly basis? Noticed this in the ad which sounds iffy but given mega mileage...

SERVICING WAS DONE BY HISELF WITH THE OIL,FILTERS FUEL FILTERS CHANGED EVERY MONTH

Well it averages at 1700 miles a month over the lifetime of the car, it could possibly be that the current owner bought it on average mileage and racked up silly miles over a shorter period of time?

Complete service every month sounds a bit overkill, but then the car is £385. If it runs, drives, and an get through an MOT you are doing well hehe

Yes, I suspect that it's a similar sketch to my car- It did around 15,000 miles in its first 6-7 years and then the remainder in the last five, previous owner did 16500 between May last year and when I bought it in Feb...

I would hope with monthly servicing that he was doing about 2000 miles a week to make it worthwhile!

Does seem to be that nowadays cars have higher miles than they used to, I think with the mileages being recorded on MOT's etc it's a bit harder to clock cars (and make it look believable) - been looking at estate cars and they are generally 110k-150k miles at 4/5 years old.

I'd have thought it was easier to clock them these days.
