While I can understand it, I think suspending them is a bit over the top, it isn't like they were causing a danger to anyone and they were on the ground for less than 5 minutes.

It's quite common to get suspended during any investigation. Hopefully they'll be OK. Unfortunately, as said, you have to assume someone is filming you and your employer might see it all the time these days.

I thought it was strange that the Pilot was suspended from the Coast Guard helicopter.

Shouldn't he be flying it while they suspend the rescuer and basket?

A bit harsh shirley? Especially as Medivac choppers put down in all kinds of places not normally reserved for a heli landing? So what's the big deal here?

I was lucky enough to hitch rides around the country in one of the Fuel Pipeline patrol choppers a few years back - obviously won't say who or where! But they've been known to drop me off in a field behind my house before - which I guess amounts to the same thing as this - and is it really such a big deal???

If you have a professional pilot treating an aircraft with respect, and landing somewhere that doesn't present a danger to the aircraft or the souls on board, it doesn't appear to be a breach of use or regulations, does it?

I wonder how often the Coastguard 4x4s are used for shopping trips? I bet they frequently stop at shops and other places. I guess its expensive to keep the helicopter in the air and making extra landings adds to costs in fuel etc, but even so the additional cost must be negligble in the scheme of things.

Whilst I am all for cutting costs in the ublic sector this sort of thing doesnt worry me. They'd save more money by getting rid of the manager who decided to suspend them and obviously has nothing better to do in his job.

But I bet they have to do it so many times in a year as part of ongoing training anyway.

Why not just record it and move on?
