Buying some forks for my old Kona but dont really know how much steerer length I need, because I'm mechanical numpty. I want to run an aheadset set-up, so i know I will need an extra 1.5" or so(?) more.

Any tips on getting this measurement?

Its going to depend on how many spacers you want to run (and hence how high you want the bars, assuming you'll go for a standard-ish stem)
IMO, go for one thats too long if poss - you can always cut it down remember smile

Meansure the lenght of the steerer tube on the frame (including the headset of course), and then add on the height of the stem - that would be the absolute minimum you'd want mate!
