Being a biker I am used to giving out a mutual nod to other bikers passing my way, except for Hardly Davidson bikers... they never Nod back but I'll keep trying as it’s in my nature.
Recently I let a red Audi Quattro pull out in Kingston and gave the chaps in it a wave and nod of mutual understanding, which was enthusiastically returned by passenger (driver was too busy looking for traffic).
Just this weekend while on the North Circular I let a classic BMW 7 series from the 80's out... when said chap was pulling out gave me a nod of appreciation indicating at my 88' VW microbus, which I guess is a modern classic.
Incidentally my rear engined VW Bus has a flat 6 3.3 engine squeezed into it.
Had a few more but don’t want to log every one of them.
I hope this is a trend that will continue, where classic and modern classic owners share the mutual respect and acknowledgement.

Spitfire used to get all sorts of love, any other classic would always wave, most mx5 owners and what not.
Corrado used to get the VW water cooled waves.
Not noticed anyone spotting the williams yet, but when it warms up and i decide to take it futher afield im sure people will give me waves.
Always lovely to see like minded people out there.

It's a nice gesture of solidarity - doesn't matter what they are driving, if it's old and interesting then it's fine with me.
The nod etc. and stopping to offer assistance if you see a broken down classic is one of the things that make classic car ownership more interesting and worthwhile.

It's one of the things I've always loved about driving a car with some sort of following, or riding a 'bike. Especially good fun when unexpected; wave from '30s Bentley owner whilst out in lowly Triumph! Don't see many Vincents to wave at so generally indulge whenever I see a likely candidate - MG, Morgan, VW camper, Volvo Amazon etc. but rarely get a reciprocal nod or wave from other kit owners (Caterhams and the like). Find I always get a response top down in the inclement weather from those doing likewise - even MX5s.
The Austin gets mixed responses, was recently hailed by a guy in a dayglo Celica Supra and saluted by the driver of an original example. However, I did have the occupants of a few cars on a vintage run either ignore me or make less than appreciative gestures...
As for the 'bike, well being a Harley rider (among others) I find this quite often elicits a strange hand gesture from other riders that I can only presume means that they would like to buy me a freshly ground coffee?

I like the French bikers wave - a quick wave of the leg. Much safer as you don't take you hand off the 'bars.
When I drive the trackday shed (FiestaRS1800 stripped and still a bit barry from the last owner) I love to wave at the Yoofs in their Clios and Saxos etc. Confuses the hell out of them seeing an old git in a very obvious track car waving at them!

I read that as Vincent, as in 2 wheels, rather than 4. Had a part built kit for a while. Sadly had to go to allow space for the 3000M. As for me i would like to nod or wave to Cosworth or RS drivers but hardly see any apart

Yep, a lot of modern TVR drivers have no idea what a Vixen is. 
I had a Chimaera for a few years and always waved but found that a number of TVR owners were simply that, not enthusiasts. The looks or sometimes the blanking that I used to get from some were quite off putting.LordBretSinclair said:

broke down on the way to the MoT station a couple of weeks ago in the 7i MiniIt hadn't been on the road since 2008.
A guy in an old transit pick up stopped withing a couple of minutes, offered help and spares from the two he had in his barn!
This compares with the hundred others who drove past.
Including a guy I knew in his Alfa GTV!!! (Suppose he didn't know I had the mini)
