I am interested whether anyone has suffered engine problems with the Red Rose Speed 6. Mine is on the original engine after 14k miles and wondering if I am pushing my luck now!!! Don't panic.

mines a rr coming up to 12K with no engine "upgrades" Just had the 12K service and the dealer (Fernies) checked all the relevent bits and have given her a clean bill of health.

I can't imagine they'd use different finger followers/valve guides/any of those common-problem things on the RR engine. So, IMHO, your engine is just as un/likely to go pop as a standard spec one. Maybe the extra power would accelerate any potential problem, but I wouldn't imagine that'd make too much difference.

If it was me, I'd try to find a warranty that does cover you for mechanical wear (as opposed to just breakage), then just get out there and drive it. (I think somebody mentioned one of these warranties on here a while ago)

Mine's a Feb '01 model. Done about 18K miles. I'm heading off for a 3K ish European tour in September - so hope all will be well. My Tuscan article was in June Sprint.

I too use Fernies & get them to have a good look over at each service - as I will before Sept. trip. I get the tappets adjusted at each service.

I always thoroughly warm the engine oil before using the revband, but who knows about the finger followers?!? I try not to think about it.

It makes a change to hear stories of people without problems. I noticed on another thread about engine problems that it may be better to rev the engine more to reduce the FF wear. An interesting thought, perhaps you all dive your cars rather then tootle about in them?
Who knows.....
