Little Langdale Cumbria
Discussion
Hi Everyone, in a couple of weeks time, ten of us are staying in a cottage in Little Langdale about 5 miles from Ambleside for a week.
I'm the only one who is into mountain biking, but I was wondering if there is anywhere close to where we are staying for me to shoot off in the morning for a couple of hours biking without having to go too far or getting too lost!!
I know I will regret it if i dont take my bike.
Thank you.

Thats what worries me!! Thetford forest has a couple of good single tracks but nothing to go up or down!! There are a couple of high curbs in the car park though!!
This would be a good test as there are four of us going to Afan Forest for the weekend at the end of May.
as others have said, grizedale is a great bet because the trails are easy to navigate and a day there is well worth it.
if you fancy some diy routes though the bridlepaths to the east of Ambleside towards the A592 are fantastic and there are some good trails just north around Grasmere and on Loughrigg Fell.

We used to do a wet-weather Lakes route that went straight past Little Langdale. If starting from there, you'd head due South across the ford and follow the tracks/roads to the top end of Coniston lake. Then up a steep bridleway climb Eastwards into Grizedale. Then head NE to Hawkshead and then NW to Knipe Fold, Hodge Close and back to Little Langdale.
Obviously look at OS maps to work out a route
As a group activity (non-MTBing), the old slate quarries just over the ford from Little Langdale (known as Cathedral Quarry/Caves) are worth exploring too but take a torch for some of the longer tunnels.
