Speeding "crackdown"

Seems that the police are going to have a crackdown on speed "across the county." So, eyes open all ... Im just hoping that they don't sit on that 50 mph bit of the A329m... Mind you, they would be raking in the gold..

Fascinating they don't even bother justifying it now. No more lying about it causing death and mayhem just that they're going to roll out a load of invoices.

I do wish someone with an interest in making the roads better was involved in priorities rather than some accountant.

I only drive in Berkshire for work and van limited to 55mph.. if i get done i would be lucky to be up to speed haha

A few times this week I've seen a scamera parked on the A3 going towards Tolworth/Hook, right after the fixed speed camera where the limit drops from NSL to 50. Nearly caught me out, but I'd imagine that was a productive day, as nearly everybody gets up to 60 after the camera. Must have saved hundreds of lives doing that, though.

Saw the first batch today, fortunately I was on foot - not that I would have been speeding, pulling people into arbor lane off the B3030 in winnersh by the looks of things.

Missus commented last night that there was a lot of traffic cars around Binfield and Warfield yesterday, so they are obviously 'getting busy'.

Trouble with these 'crackdowns' is that they usually happen in the day, and catch the Mum's going to pick the kids up from school doing 33/34 in a 30 (I accept that speeding is speeding, but......). If the Bib were to police the same roads at 20.00 onwards they would stand half a chance of stopping the tts who thunder through the middle of the village at 60/70+

We usually do it when the locals complain about the speeding. This is normally done via the local meetings and they'll give us a time frame that the speeding occurs, we turn up during those times and ping motorists. 9/10 we normally ping the locals who have made the complaints!
Sadly if we don't go and do it at these times, we get complaints that "the Police aren't doing anything about people speeding along this road and someone will get killed". When we do do it, we get complaints "Haven't the Police got anything better to do, you should be out catching rapists/burglars/murders"

You see, dammed if we do, dammed if we don't.

It will only get worse once we have new commissioners in place

I can see where you are coming from, and I know one of the locals who campaigned for more speed traps - then got 3 points (old bag, holier than thou – deserved it)!

Trouble is, the people who make the noise about the traffic in the day tend to be those who represent the vocal minority, the silent majority are more concerned about the idiots who scream through the middle of the village in the evening while people are out walking their dogs, going to the park etc (talking specifically about Binfield!)…

Truth of the matter is the roads through Binfield tend to be quite quiet in the daytime, and while there is no doubt in my mind that a good % of drivers using them are marginally above the limit simply by not concentrating on their speed, the tts who knowingly flaunt the law tend to do it in the evening and at night.

Sadly, the perception is that by policing the roads during office hours the Bib are hitting the soft targets, the idiots who are likely to do the damage go unchallenged.

As you say, dammed if you do, dammed if you don’t – there is an argument to say that breaking the law is breaking the law, regardless of the % over the limit a driver is doing – therefore all offenders should be treated equally . . . . .
