Help needed! 996 Bose system
Discussion
Hi all, I have had my car broken into last week and the stereo pinched. It wasn't the original PCM but an aftermarket job which someone fitted before I got the car. Just bought another one today.
Now I've fitted a few stereos in my time, and I'm normally pretty good, and I've located the 12v constant, negative and switched power no problems. But because of the bose amp, I can't locate the individual speakers (I normally touch the wires with a AA battery to locate which one is which) but when I do this I get nothing. I guess it's because the amp needs power too?
Anyone know where to start? Does the amp need power from the stereo?
Thanks in advance!

Yes, the amp needs power but it gets switched from the stereo. To find the power to the amp, you need to disconnect the battery and test all cables to earth. Then connect the amp power cable at the amp end to earth, then test them in the car again. The one that now bells to earth is the amp power. Reconnect it at the amp and power it up. Of course you could just connect them all up with the stereo out and test them with the fade/balance before putting it in?

Cheers, there is a wire bundled in with the speaker cables which I suspected was the power to the amp. The new stereo has a 12v out so I'll connect the 2 and try it.Gassing Station | Porsche General | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
