He hardly gets a mention on here, yet he is one of the best songwriters of late, and not only a great instrumentalist across the board, but a great guitarist, worthy of a place in the myriad of polls that we are inundated with. Er, that's all. I like him, he's great on record and even better on stage.
I'll second that sentiment.
Genuinely gifted musician and song writer. Technically well able to play every instrument and an amazing back catalogue.
Not heard much of him in the last 10 years though since his break up from the record companies and him going it alone.
Anyone know what he's been up to?

The Black Album ('88 bootleg) is my favorite.
I went to see Prince at Earls Court in '92, the sound and acoustics were terrible, i was so disappointed.
I liked his side projects too eg The Time, Vanity6 etc he was very prolific.
I can't think of any other performers who can write/produce/arrange/sing and play all the instruments and have so many hits.

The man is a genuis; you only have to surf YouTube for a bit to find examples of him playing across multiple instruments and genres. There's footage of him at the "secret" gigs (apparently he's in the habit of shipping himself and the band off to small venues after playing already and then carrying on for another couple of hours) which further illustrate his talent.
He's had some interesting "phases" but then that's just symptomatic of someone continously exploring his boundaries.

Prince is a phenomenom and I've been lucky enough to see him live several times over the years and he just never fails to deliver. The 22 nights at the 02 shows in 2007 were just fantastic. As he kept saying through the evening, "too many hits, not enough time" as the band ploughed seamlessly into another blinder!!

Not a huge Prince fan, quite like Raspberry Beret, Little Red Corvette etc, however I am a big Aynsley Lister fan, who does a rather good version of Purple Rain...

Obviously Sign of the Times is top of the list, I also have Diamonds and Pearls which is great, so what should the next 3 be? I am not familiar with his stuff since those 2 really
