For more of a cafe but definitely a Smithfield institution there's Ferrari's Cafe
Another pub is The Hope which has a restaurant for breakfast or lunch.

I'd personally try The Hope or The Fox and Anchor.....all of them have been there for 25 yeas plus so are Smithfield insitutions....there are plenty of other palces rouynd there but those are the more genuine Smithfield breakfast places.
Depending on the time of day.. if its really really early or late.. then take the advice of the above, if its breakfast you want and you are there at 7am onwards I can recommend Smiths, Excellent Breakfast and may I also recommend Breakfast number 2 with a cpl of extra rashers of Gloucester old spot bacon..
I was a guest at St Barts across the square for most of the summer in 2008, the breakfast there was crap.. so I used to bundle the canular's under my sleeve and escape, meeting various mate's for Brekkie there. When I had a neckline it was a little trickier but I did manage it a few times.. One of my mate's did famously say.. " I wish you would either die or get better, but having breakfast everyday here is doing me no good, I've put on 3kg's already! " obviously I lived to tell the tale..

Someone took me to one a few years ago - The Hope I think.
Just seemed an odd thing to do.
I like a beer at the end of the day as much as anyone - and for those for whom the original licensing exemptions were enacted whose working day does actually finish at 6am, then fair enough - but getting up an hour early just so you can enjoy the novelty of having 2 pints with breakfast and then stuggling through the day at work as a result just didn't strike me as fun.
Each to their own though I guess.

When I was a lad it was part of the challenge.. mixed grill two pints of guinness in the fox and anchor and see if you could survive the day.. only the weak went home. Just seemed an odd thing to do.

Yes the mixed gill at the Fox was a thing of legend.....massive oval plate, bed of chips with the mixed grill on top.....I had it for lunch once. Didn't eat for at least 24 hours and did the most almighty s
