Please post the above into your browser, it looks great and is a bargain.

What would you pay for this any why ?

I'll give you a little information;

Its an import 911E (1969 Car) Imported in 1981.

It was repainted from black to current colour,it has been rebodied ito the current shape. It has I believe been thoroughly rennovated excluding the engine that although is a t 180k miles is said to be strong. A 200bhp Carrera 3 engine.

I am viewing Friday afternoon, I know nothing about classics. I have a 996 Turbo and thats as far as my knowledge goes!

Would you buy this? Do you know the car ?

Thanks Gents in advance. If there are any specialists that are local to Chipping Norton please let me know. I will obviously pay but have limited time. (I have 1st refusal on Friday afternoon).

Just had a quick look, but if that's a 1969 911E then there's virtually no originality left.

It's certainly not a 'classic', more a hybrid concoction of bits trying to look like a late '80s 'Club Sport'. Or have I missed something?

For £8K would it not be worth a punt?

What would you do to it ? I have very little knowledge at this stage on the older cars. Could it be easily turned back to a 911E shape?

(I'd try and make it look a like an original racer probably).

Looking around I tend to find that it costs more like £20k for a 911E and that's a bit high for a play thing/project ?

8 grand? rofl

Where's it been imported from? If its original rhd I'd say there's 4-5 grand in it.

If its left to right hand drive conversion it's a breaker.

If you really know nothing about classic pork then take some free advice, stay the fk away from that stheap thumbup

It's a Right Hander.

I thought that there was no such thing as a £8k 911, Let alone that it was worth £4-5k!

Realistically, if I fancy a little garage project, somthing to work on restoring, new interior, maybe wheel change, tidy up calipers etc what do you buy to tinker on ?

I have my reliable toys but now fancy sothing a little more nostalgic.

Thanks, if you have saved me from a big mistake ???

panels alone will eat up at least £5k. Then you'll have to have them fitted and the rot in the tub sorted. That'll be another £5k at least. then there are all the hen's teeth interior parts - that'll take you 5 years and several thousand pounds to sort out. Then of course the engine is a high mileage Carrera3 (weak) engine. And then you have to paint it...not long before you get to your £20k for an original (but most probably rotten) original car....and you still have a car that may be restored to original, but lacks its original engine...

God knows what else has been done to the car to make the panels on it fit....

If you really wanted to turn the clock back on such a car, best bet would be to locate and fit fibreglass panels to it and turn it into a 3.0RS replica (OK, so none of these were made with sunroofs, but not much you can do about that)

The 3.0 RS replica is a very appealing route.

So Ideally what would the shopping list be ?

-A solid chasis and engine with matching numbers ?
-Fibreglass panel Kit
-Paint Job
-Race Interior

What would the estimated cost be in your opinion ?

Do you know of a base car available, and is the original posted car not right for this job ?

Cheers Gav

Yes I bought my low mileage, imaculate 996 Turbo for £8k!

It may have been the same garage that you procured your little black bmw from. I saw it being part exchanged with cash against a ford Ka if my memory serves me right ;-)

hehe touché, or should I say touchy!

Only pulling your plonker pal, but although tongue in cheek what I meant was any old 911 can be worth next to nothing if it's a heap.

The problem with old 911s is as stated above, the price to put 'em right. Go in with your eyes wide open & you can have great fun building your perfect spec.

Have a look at my yellow or orange 911s in the readers cars section for some inspiration.

Alternatively, yesterday I performed a pre purchase inspection on an extremely rare, desirable 911 that will only go one way in value & for less than this basket case would cost you to put right.

Not so much fun perhaps but you pays your money & takes your chances....

Hi Gav.
If I were trying to sell you a 1969 911E imported into the UK in 1981 but it looked just like a 993 or 996 turbo. Where would you tell me to go. Simples

I would be very surprised if that was a 69 shell to begin with, I would guess 83-85, but then the rear foglights (conversion easily done) & door speakers sugest 87 on (not withstanding the 80's pasha rear seats), so it is certainly a bitsa, but I would guess an orphan shell that has found a chassis number from an earlier car (brake servo anyone?).

Any way, forget that car, why are the dealers converting late cars to early replicas & selling them for up to £50k when in 20 years time the original will be worth more than the expensively done replica, simply put it's what people with money, and arguably no taste, want now.

Who knows what the future holds, but I'm pretty sure what PHer's think is not going to dictate the market.

Get over yourselves wink

Happy tuesday!
