Another what car thread

Hi All
I have been thinking about changing my Passat for some time now.
I am looking for a cheap to run daily, budget between £5 -£8k
I think diesel as i do about 13-14k miles a year. I want something a bit more sporty than the passat, but doesn't have to be a hoon car as i have the Carlton for that.
So far i like:
Saab 9-3 TTID Aero
Alfa 159
Alfa GT
I like Audi but repair costs worry me
Any thoughts on the cars above or any other cars suggested?
Cheers
Paul

Alex, i did notice your post on fb about a GT, i do like them, just wonder the reliability is like.
Cheers for those Jack, i don't like the 9-3 estate, the roofline just looks odd to me. I do like the saloons though
The BM is getting a bit old, but i like it and i do like the idea of wafting too. hmmm

Had a drive in Saab 93 the other day (was an estate but am sure they go pretty much the same) - went ok to be honest, think you can chip up the 150 models to decent level as well - TT even better I guess. Thing that worries me is they don't seem to have dropped like I thought they might since shutting up shop, went to BCA and some were still going through at biggish money. Maybe they won't as they have still always been a used bargain anyway I guess.
I'd go Alfa it you like them though, the diesel in that is essentially strong, the same basic unit as the Saab one I seem to remember reading. Had no real probs with my 156, think the Italians have upped their game from the dark days. Personally, despite vowing off German cars, I'm going Merc C270 Diesel estate (as it's an in family swap for my legacy) - not expecting an overly sporty drive but with a chip I think it will go well, 200hp+ and about 400nm, yet should see mid 40's mpg.... which will be a nice change for me.

Very cheap to run/maintain and surprisingly fun to drive if you want to push on...
And over 46mpg average!

The GM 3.0Cdti V6 is the spawn of the devil. Its one of the most disappointing, uninspired engines I've ever had the misfortune to drive. Done many many miles in them and they are just wrong, no power where you need or expect it, very little torque for the displacement, and sounds like a skeleton w

The Lexus has prompted thoughts - a very well spec'ed car with an excellent reputation for reliability. Not the most exciting thing but a waft-mobile none the less....http://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/2012...
