We are going to stay at Cameron House in a month or so and would just like to line up some places to eat nearby. So far I have come up with The Cruin which looks good? Any other recommendations?

Cheers

Depends how far you want to go. Cameron House is v good, cruin is ok. There's a few ok places in Loch Lomond shores just around the corner; the Italian there does good food, but the surroundings aren't great. There's also a touristy scottish food there on the upper floor, which is surprisingly ok too.

Further up the way, you've got the lodge on loch lomond - I've not eaten there for a while, but the last time was very good. The only food worth eating at the Inverbeg Inn on the left hand side just past luss is the fish and chips. Distinctly average menu, although the place is nice enough, the staff are decent, the beers are good and they've a decent range of whisky.

If you come into Helensburgh, there's a choice of some very good to very average places to eat. On the good side is mira mare, a seafood based Italian on the seafront. The best fish and chip shop outside pittenweim and east neuk is also here - it's called the wee kelpie, also on the seafront. Decent chinese is the Ruby, although the one in Balloch is also very good. On Sinclair street, the main road in from loch lomond, there's a fantastic modern deli called the riverhill cafe which is open late on Friday and Saturday and does really really good food. The Commodore on the sea front does standard pub grub, but does it very well. You've also got the rosslea hall hotel in rhu which does ok bar food, but brilliant posh dinner.

Further up the road, I'd go either into Arrochar and eat at the Village Inn or go further up the road to Crianlarich (about 20 miles) and eat at the Drovers Inn. The food isn't particularly epic, but the surroundings are. Finally, if you're out and about driving, you might as well go over the rest and be thankful and head down towards Inveraray and eat at the Loch Fyne Oyster Bar at the head of the loch. Some of the best sea food in Scotland, although they will do meat and veggie stuff too. If forced!

The Tully Inn, Balloch on the main street is very good for evening meals. Also agree, if you come across to Helensburgh the Mira Mare is excellent, not just for seafood as they do a magnificant steak. The decor is very 1980's, but don't let that put you off.
If you like Indian food, the Akash in Helensburgh is good. Used to be better and lives on it's reputation a bit now, but still good.

alfa pint - take it ,by seafront you mean Clyde street. In my day it was chippie/pub/shop/chippie/pub/shop etc. ( Or rather West Clyde St) ,oh and the occasional newsagent, and perhaps a ladies hat shop, and a rarer chemists .Sinclair ST was home to the grocers shops. Seems to have changed . smile ( But I went to school when Hermitage was in town ,not in Cardross .)

The boat house is also another option which is on the cameron house estate, 5 min walk from the main hotel.

Just the place I was going to mention, a lovely place to spend an afternoon, get some sunshine and you've cracked it!

Also, make sure to make use of the rooftop infinity pool.

Enjoy!

Yep, Clyde Street. Goes charity shop /sports shop / chippie / pub / bookies / pub / terrible dirty indian /pub / good chinese / pub and then goes into some very nice shops and boutiques all the way up to the Commodore with a few houses thrown in for good measure, with a few decent restaurants thrown in for good measure. Quite a lot of re-development about to happen here soon - your old school has been flattened and will become affordable housing for the schemies, there's a waitrose about to be built opposite the new school and they're re-developing the pierhead site for more shops, a better leisure centre, a much needed cafe (there's only about a dozen in town) etc.

OP - completely forgot about the Duck Bay Hotel. Food portions are huge and it's expensive for what it is, which is posh pub food. However, I've never had a bad meal there. As mentioned, it's full of either grannies or footballers depending on what time you go.

Ahem, the infinity pool is at the Spa down the road towards Luss at The Carrick golf course. (Another arm of the Cameron House group) Their restaurant is another possibility.
