After five years of uni up in Scotland I'm finally having to get a job. Due to MMCs I'm moving to Boston. Not the best for someone who likes mountain biking or highlands drives. Anyway;

I'm casually browsing lettings and am keen to find out where the location of the elusive fenside estate is. Judging via google satellite is is around the north west part of the town?

Any local knowledge of its location and and further parts to avoid would be appreciated. Conversely, any nice parts welcome too!

Regards,

Oh dear, I think you are in for major disappointment after Scotland, unless you were at uni in Govan. If so it'll be a home from home!
Plus points - not far from Cadwell circuit,a few nice roads in the area and erm.....

Boston is horrible, Used to live in Lincoln and tried not to go there at all if possible, I believe it was a nice place years ago but now its run down and tatty with fairly high levels of unemployment, there were big problems with the locals vs the mostly polish immigrants that arrived in droves to work the fields around it but I think that has mostly calmed down now.

Also traffic is a nightmare, there are far too many vehicles trying to get through at rush hour and there has been a campaign going on for years trying to get a bypass built so much so that a small independent political party called the Boston Bypass Party managed to beat Labour and get themselves elected just on one promise about getting a bypass sorted.

If at all possible I would live somewhere else, I think there are one or two nice places in there somewhere but I don't know enough to say where they are and everything I have ever heard about or seen with my own eyes says avoid. Especially the Fenside estate, and yeah you are about right with its location.

Sorry

Well Jack Daniels, tell it how it is! I was trying to be tactful but sadly you are spot on, Boston is a dump of the highest magnitude. Looking at the OP's profile I wonder if he is going to be working at the Pilgrim Hospital? (Puts the grim into Pilgrim alright) please run fast, now and don't look back. I thought about writing that the best thing about Boston is the road out but even that is crap.

Lived and worked in the area all my life, avoid like the aids ridden plague.

Thanks for the above replies.

Fortunately it is only for a year. Then on to another hospital.

I've jsut plowed through a list of possible options with the girlfriend. The only place that was catagorically removed from the list was Boston. Good luck, I suspect you're going to need it.

Must you actually live in Boston ? There are some nice villages in the Lincolnshire Wolds, cheap places to live, and you have Cadwell and a few hills to play on.
I'm really unsure as to what distances are like to travel there. Only real experience of travel around there is the A52 on towards Norfolk and I find the roads very frustrating to overtake on. Ideally I don't really want much of a commute as they'll be predictably a fair few nights/lates and I don't really like driving tired too much.

Ironically for such a poor area the postcodes are an A grade for car insurance risk. Slightly odd.

The roads of Lincolnshire are narrow, worn out, muddy and badly maintained, in daylight the roads are clogged with tractors and trucks making it impossible to overtake. On the bright side housing is reasonably priced and our appalling road safety record means you will not be short of work, especially if you are assigned to casualty. HTH Kev B

It's a dive, but usefully has the basic amenities (supermarkets, shops)that the nicer local villages dont. Not far from the coast though, and even the outskirts of Boston aren't that bad.

Op if your going to be working at the hospital then have you thought about the onsite accommodation?
They built a big new block a couple of years ago so I'd guess they won't be to bad.

Fenside is not some where you want to be.

There's a recent development on Wainfleet Road within walking distance of the hospital that may have some rentals.

If you want to PM me with dates, no. of bedrooms and budgets I'll get my wife on the case. She is very good at finding places!

Don't believe what has been said about Pilgrim Hospital - they saved my Son's life a couple of years ago.

Try a village north of Boston then the slog through won't affect you . Frithville Sibsey etc much nicer places to be and easy access to Pilgrim. good luck, had my one and only car break-in in Pilgrim car park about 25years ago , don't expect it to have improved a lot... sorry
