Is it worth upgrading?

I currently have a Canon EOS 1000D, which was/is my first DSLR camera, and I have had it for over a year now and feel as though I have improved quite substantially in that time, but is it worth upgrading to a 600D, for better quality, or does the 8mp make no real difference, is it all down to a lens? I mean, should I be spending my money on a better body, or just a good quality lens?

The body is (mostly) irrelevant in my opinion, it's the lens that matters. A better body could be useful if you needed more frames per second, or better ISO handling for night time shots (for example). I've taken some superb shots with my 350D, but think that was mostly down to the L glass.

What do you need that your 1000 doesn't achieve? What lens(es) do you own?

If you don't already have one the 50mm 1.8 is a great investment.

Yes - I went 450D to 60D recently and noticed a big difference ( 600 has the same sensor and pixels as the 60 I think). Go for it you won't regret it

A better body will give you more to play with for your money.

A better lens will usually give better pictures.

Hi Chaps, the lenses I have at the moment are a Tamron 18-200 F/3.5 and a 50mm F/1.8, and the kit lens, I mainly shoot cars and landscapes, and if I was to get a new camera, I would sell the 1000D and put the money from that towards another lens, from one you may recommend.

I'm in the same position as you in the moment. Currently have the 1000D buy selling up for a 60D. The faster focussing, better fps and better quality with higher ISO are the reasons why I'm upgrading.

The Tamron 17-50mm f2.8 is a fantastic lens for your requirements (300 new or 200 secondhand). Failing that get a Canon 17-40 f4L if you have the budget (580 new, 400 secondhand).

1000D to 550D is a nice bump up
