Hi and thanks, would it have to be a porsche specialist? the only reason i ask,is because i wondered if the geo setup specs for the new wheels maybe hard to calculate?

It'll run fine on 17s, even 18s, but does need to be set up by someone who knows their stuff. Have you got 968 castor mounts? If not, this is the first thing to change. Check out all the suspension components and change if they're worn. Then take it to Centre Gravity for a morning.

If it was running ok on the 17s but now tramlines, check the steering u/js, particularly the top one as it get very hot by the exhaust.

There is a chap in the club from the North East area that has a gorgeous red turbo that runs on some stunning RUF (I think) 18s. I took a pic of the car years ago when I first saw it and it still is. Will see if I can upload it.

From Yorkshire ????

There are many equally qualified places in Yorkshire, and possibly much cheaper (but with less internet notoriety).

Tis true.

RPM at Knaresborough are very good and are a Porsche Specialist. There was also a dicussion recently on the Yorkshire forum about this very subject and it lists other suppliers:

Hi all and thanks for all your contributions, the car has always tramlined, but the roads in yorkshire are terrible and on rough roads its a nitemare.Ive just checked the n/s control arm and theres slight play in the ball joint, but not enough to worry about, but ill be fitting a new one asap, design 911 have them for £175 exchange.Just had a look through the history file,it did have a geo set up when the 17s were fitted 7yrs ago,no mention of the 968 components though.theres uneven tyre wear on the fronts, outer edge much has much lower tread, rears seem fine.T.I.P.E.C. meet close to where i live on sunday 8th, ll see if anyone there knows of a good porsche geo man in our area.

On the wider tyres the geo & overall suspension will be more critical. If you have uneven wear then it sounds like it needs going through. I used Hartech for my exchange wishbones. One area to check which gets forgotten is the play where the piston rod enters the strut body. I did a suspension rebuild a few years ago on my TIPEC AROs car because of this. Before it was absolutely white knuckle job, after we'd done it & reset the suspension geo ourselves & it was hands off. After it is set up you may need to bin the tyres to finally cure it.

I haven't been to every geo place in the country so I dont know how qualified they all are, but Chris does suspension all day, his hourly rate is probably competitive but he is a perfectionist, that doesn't mean he hangs about, but everything has to be spot on. I had a setup in mind before I went,a couple of degrees negative camber, as low as possibe, he was happy to set it up like that but away from the track it wasn't the ideal setup.

Some of our roads are indeed in quite a state but shouldn't be suffering that bad.

We were out in the wilds of the moors two weeks ago on some very rough roads and everything was fine. We don't have 17s on that car, just 16s but it really was fine.

Hope you get it sorted.

Just to complicate things further, would the 944 turbo wheels go on her,i see that they go up in size to fronts 7.5J rears 9J and offset to 65mm and 60mm,its just a thought?

That sounds like 968 CS and sport offsets so yes should work.

Yes - you may need to roll the rear arches though.

erm, have you checked your tyre pressures?

They are very sensitive to it, I have the same wheels and when I switched from P6000 to 452s on the front I had to go up on tyre pressure on the front to stop the tramlining

Could be the change in temp has caused your tyres to soften a little
