Any tips on this E Type, chassis number given is 7S156105SA. How does it decode?

I checked UK prices and it seems these cars have increased since I left for NZ. Not worth importing now and stick with a local car.

well one way is to look at www.xkedata.com

they don't reckon that's a valid chassis number.
Numbers starting 7S... sound more like V12 engine numbers for E-Types.

Yes, it does look like the engine number, I'll ask for the chassis number today.

Someone hit the 'buy now' so it has sold for equivalent of £33,500. Maybe now I should look for buying one from the UK as the exchange rate is in my favour.
Prices do seem to have risen though in the last 5 years, would that be right?

The above chassis number does not compute at all. If it is a V12 then the chassis number will start 1S, not 7S, which is an engine number, which in any case had but four digits or later on five. The chassis numbers depended on whether the car was a roadster or a 2+2, the former starting at 1S1001 and FHC from 1S50001. As to the SA suffix I have no idea since I've never seen one, but maybe it was destined for South Africa? Could the number after the S be a slash and not a number? If you provide the correct chassis or engine number I can provide the date of manufacture to within approximately one month.

I requested the accurate chassis number, rather than the one given that was printed on the documents, but didn't get it.
The car it appears has now sold with a 'buy now'.

I should perhaps consider importing one from the UK.
