Is this a good base for a 911 project?
Discussion
Or is it horrendously offensive? I have always liked this shape 911 but never been an owner of any Porsche, it would be a ground up rebuild. Needs to be a wide body to start with though ideally. It just seems odd that its the only pre 70 model around and is still so cheap? (for Aus$ prices!) Misprint/scam do you think?

A 1968 one would have looked something like this one http://static.ddmcdn.com/gif/porsche-911-059-3-38r...
I suspect it should say 1988...

A genuine 68S would be far, far more valuable in original condition. If you are going to do a ground up rebuild then it really doesn't matter what you start with, you will almost certainly be doing so much rust repair that the rear quarters will have to come off anyway. The only widebody 911s that came out of the factory were 2.8RSRs (55 made, be prepared to write a cheque for over £1M these days. They were long wheel base chassis, the 68S is short wheel base and the handling can be quite challenging.
What are you intending to build?

The 2.0 litre engine would point towards 1968 though - it certainly looks like it needs very thorough investigation.I suspect it should say 1988...
I'd suspect that a later car has received the identity of an earlier car - a "ringer" effectively, but if you can unravel everything and nothing's stolen then IF the car itself is any good it may be a useful starting point for a project if it is priced appropriately.
