Right, going away a week tuesday, just france for 5 days so I dig out the old passport and it expired last June...

Now from what i've gleaned from direct.gov it seems the only way to get a new one in time this late is to use their Premium One Day service.

Now i'm assuming I get the form itself from a Post Office which has them and then phone up and pray to god I can get an appointment in time...? Then its a case of driving to Newport, being relieved of £129.50 and hanging around for 4 hours....

fk sake, so pissed off with myself!!

I did exactly the same last year! Had to get it done at Peterborough and missed a days holiday. Not too bad really. The only downer was spending 4 hours in Peterborough whilst waiting for my new passport to be produced wink

Not as pissed off as I was with myself last year on discovering mine had expired. I discovered this whilst packing 19 hours before the flight time.

Appointment system is pretty good though, made appointment in Durham (only place left the next day), booked new flight, then told the other half.

Arrived on holiday just 22 hours late and £300 poorer.

Good luck.smile

Think of it as a tax on stupidity. And etch March 2022 into your brain.

90 quid so you can actually go on holiday seems reasonable to me! I had the same when I went to the USA in 2006.

Best bet is the market car park which is over the road next to the market surprisingly enough. It's a multi with height restriction so if your in something tall there's lots of car parks on brook street entrance is opposite the market one

As others have said the only good thing is that the passport service is one of the very few competent government departments to deal with. I have found them very helpful indeed in my dealings with them.

Can beat that

Turn up at heathrow for 2 week holiday to Thailand with girlfriend, first holiday together, my passport has exactly 6 months to the day remaining. But because we arrive the day after I have one day less than 6 months when I arrive in Bangkok

fking BA doesnt let me on the flight (I hear later that other airlines are much more relaxed)

Then lose 5 days of holiday waiting for Victoria passport office to re-open after snowstorms). We didnt stay together!

Seriously, always make sure your passport is in date. You never know when you might need it.
Basic housekeeping, along with MOT, tax and insurance, cars and property.
I'll bet you will never make this mistake again.

yes

I did the mad rush to Victoria, a few years back. Managed not to delay or otherwise screw up the holiday, but expense notwithstanding it was SO bloody stressful - I can't imagine travelling in the next few years, not easily anyway, but I'll *always* make sure the bloody thing's in date now, just in case.

What is the point of a passport having an expiry date if airlines then decide arbitrarily that a valid passport is not valid for their purposes?

What the hell is the point of this '6 months left on passport bks. Either a passport is valid at the time of travel or it isn't.

I would have called in the management in your case. You had a valid passport. I would have been making a very large scene.
