Fuel pipe internal diameter

As the body is off I am planning on replacing the fuel hose from the pump to fuel rail and then the return to the tank. Does anyone know what the internal diameter should be, is it 8mm? I know that normal fuel hose isn't correct and am planning on purchasing it through chandlery world as recommended on the useful links. Am I also correct in thinking that the large pipe from the tank to the pump should be 5/8ths internal which is approximately 16mm?

Yes and yes. Nick has to used 6mm internal diameter pipe from the pump to the filter though as his plastic pipe (it's actually diesel pipe used on coaches!), had got a kink in it. The fuel pump will always supply fuel at a higher rate than the engine can use it, hence the fuel return pipe, so I wouldn't worry too much. One problem you may encounter is fitting the pipe onto the banjo bolts on the filter; it's a form of heat shrink pipe, so make sure you do it BEFORE putting the body back on, otherwise it's a proper PITA.

Personally I'd stick with 8mm but use "rubber" type hose and clips rather than the semi-rigid stuff ( from coaches), you'll never get a good seal trying to refit that type of pipe without special equipment.

Any good motor factor should have 8mm pipe, the big stuff is a bit more tricky to locate. If going to a chandlers make sure its leadfree petrol compatable, not just diesel.
