A quick update on my project for those who may be interested. I should perhaps prefix this post with a "XJ13 Geek Alert"

Incidentally, I was invited to a meeting at Jaguar Heritage last Thursday where the topic of the collection and the new museum came up. Seems there could be rather a long time before there is a new museum and it's location could be "somewhere in Warwickshire".

I took Wp junior to the heritrage museum last Tuesday, and we heard the same. They need to be out of there by September, and the collection put into storage (hence the sale yesterday). They dont know exactly where they will be based, and dont know when.

So if you are planning to visit the collection (I can recommend it!) do so quickly!!

I remember seeing what I'd assume to be the rebuilt car outside the Red Lodge cafe on the old A11 back in the early/mid 70's...

Or is my memory playing tricks with me?

Wasn't on a trailer it had been driven there...

Unlikely HotRod. The car was completed just before July in 1973 and was driven at Silverstone on July 13th 1973 so the timing could be right. However, the car isn't road-legal and has never been registered for the road. Perhaps it could have been driven off a trailer for photos or some other reason? One of the first replicas, Bryan Wingfield's car, wasn't completed until much later.

XJ13 has been on the streets recently.... she was driven by Norman Dewis through Bradford City Centre a couple of years ago. Its not impossible she was driven on the road previously using trade plates. It was done with other Jaguars.

I agree Rich - it is possible. I didn't say it was impossible just unlikely. It was driven through Bradford City Centre as part of their Classic Car Show - it didn't need plates and the pics I saw don't show any plates on the car. Here is a pic taken at the 2008 Bradford Car Show



Does anyone know of a pic where the XJ13 was wearing trade plates?

There is only 1 and that's not it.

There are some lovely replicas though - I'd have one of those over a GT40 or Cobra any day!

Hey MarcosGT - yours is one of my favourite cars. Is yours the one with the wooden chassis? I did look at buying one once and was given a test-drive by Jem Marsh himself (he struggled to squeeze himself in) but I settled on an E-Type in the end.

Spoke to my friend who would have been in my transit on that trip... He also remembers seeing what we both believe to have been an XJ13 at the Red Lodge... Though he seems to recollect it as being on a trailer... It was definately pre July '76 as thats when I got married and my transit sold... Neither of us can be certain of the year other than it being thirty-five or so years ago!

1976 .... almost certainly the original. You didn't have your camera with you by any chance?
