I have had an imported car for sale for the past year, and recently got an offer on it which I accepted.

Problem is, I had virtually no interest for a year, then got two calls the day before I headed back to work in Qatar. The problem is that the car has private plates on it, and I didn't want to sell it and take the risk of losing the plates by agreeing to let the buyer take them off.

I agreed a deal with one of the callers and arranged to take the plates off the day I left for Qatar, and have now received the authorisation to make up the new plates.

My problem is this - my wife needs to get new plates made up, the rear of which is slightly smaller than regulation (this is legal according to VOSA as the car is an import from New Zealand), and the authorisation letter from DVLA is in my name, although I did have the foresight to leave my driving licence with her for identification.

Question is - does anyone know if there's anyone in Aberdeen who might be able to get the rear plate made up with smaller than normal letters/numbers and is the fact that the authorisation is in my name and my wife is buying them a problem?

Appreciate any advice....

First place I would try is Autosave. Pretty sure you have one in Aberdeen.

Make sure your wife has her driving licence also and it should not be a problem.

I've used these folk in the past if you just want the plates delivered.

They'll do it for you online, you just need to scan the docs.
