Hi - I'm hoping to replace the sports exhaust on my 996 turbo X50 with a standard OEM exhaust. I'm looking for a secondhand unit - do I need to buy an X50 unit, or is the standard unit the same (and if anyone's got a good one to sell, please PM me). Even if the standard unit isn't the same, is there a significant difference, and would it fit? Thanks.

According to PET, the X50 exhaust is the same as the one for the GT2.
Fitment should not be an issue.

Drive an x50 after a standard turbo and it's definately louder even at idle.

So if I fit a standard unit, will it be too restrictive for the X50 power, or should it be fine for the extra 30 BHP. It's just that the standard non-X50 units seem to be more readily available - obviously I'd prefer an X50 one if I could source one at a reasonable price!

If it turns out a standard 996tt exhaust is what you want I've got one you can have for £50. It's done approx 50k miles and nothing wrong with it as far as I am aware. I'm not far from Guildford

I may be interested in swapping my standard 996 Turbo exhaust with a sports exhaust.

Which one do you have and why are you switching?

Mine is fairly new, it was purchased second-hand by my dealer about 6 months ago and put on my car then. Not sure exactly how old it is but I have been told by several different indys that it is relatively new.

cheers

Thanks for all the replies. Various PMs sent.

My current exhaust is a DesignTek Titanium with 200 cell cats (very light weight - circa 12kgs). It cost the previous owner £2800 plus fitting from Design911 UK. Has done circa 10K miles since it was fitted.

I want to change it, as at my age it's a bit too loud. It sounds fantastic, but not really my kind of thing. I'm in no particular rush to replace it, but if the right standard or X50 exhaust comes along, then I will. I'll probably regret it afterwards though!

I have one stored in my garage that I removed from a 2005 Turbo S, if you want to drop me a line.

Just had an email relating to this topic that came through marked as suspicious from a yoshizou with an email address ending .jp

Is it a genuine Pistonheader?
If its you let me know via PH.
