Tiff Needell referees his first track battle, a duel between the new 991 Porsche 911 and 2012-spec Nissan GT-R.

Video here: http://www.evo.co.uk/videos/trackdayvideos/280870/...

And here's the youtube video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YKMHKOEQAF4&fea...

Thoughts?

What's not to like? Good vid and amply demonstrates the difference between laptime and driver involvement.

Not sure why a Manual was used against a DCT, surely some time lost in gear change..

As Tiff said - he loved the 911 partly because it was a manual.

As someone said above - time v. fun.

Sure - but its a comparison of time on a track, for this purpose alone, it's unfair.

Although, the GTR would probably be quicker anyway

Smiffy - help me - how is quoting the star of the video in response to a reasonable question trolling.

I would venture that sticking up that over large red poster is far more trolling than my comment.

Making an observation that one car is fun and one car is fast is a reasonable observation.

Have a lovely day smile

Jesus, he can drive! Those slides may be all show-boating but it's mighty impressive.

Nice video! Whilst the GT-R was faster, the 911 looks more fun and a challenge to drive fast ....

Yes.

His presenting is a bit wooden and cliched, but there's not denying he can drive.

But the point of a back-to-back test is to compare similar cars.

RWD vs 4WD
N/A vs Twin Turbo
Manual vs DCT

It was 1.22.8 which is quite impressive actually. Enough for the fan boys to speculate the GT3 and Turbo will eat the GTR when they're out too!
Evo have a leaderboard for car times round Bedford West and that time is faster than a 997.2 GT3, Carrera GT and many other fast cars (original 2008 limited GTR also). TN does tend to like a Porsche though and whilst I don't really subscribe to everyone's "more fun" criteria there looks little doubt the 991 is well accomplished, but not cheap enough :-(
Further though the 1.20.1 for the GTR is v fast, GT2 RS territory. They hadn't taken a GTR round since launch whilst liberally scattering the leaderboard with all Porsche variants so this populates the leaderboard more realistically now.

Blimey, that GTR looks a bit of a handful on the limit.

Irrelevant comparison.

The final 2013 GTR and the then new 991 Turbo will be a fair test.
