Hi guys
Just looking at buying a boxter with ceramic brakes, how long do they last and what does it cost to replace?

Anything else I should know?

Many thanks
Paul

can last a year to the life of the car - mostly reliable - been a few failures that Porsche wont even look at - stops like the devil - stunning performance on the road - costs £0000000000's to replace.

Let me guess the advert - one careful owner - low mileage - never been tracked LOL!

Ceramics are very rare on Boxsters. Check the history of the car to find out if it was a press car owned by GB, they usually have reg plate identifiers too. I'd also get an OPC inspection done on the pccbs to ensure there are no issues.

Ask him about the service history. How many services has it had and when.

Correct. How many owners? If the first was Porsche GB it was a press car. The R00 plate usually gives it away. It is a good spec but I wouldn't buy it without a full OPC inspection giving the all clear. Also is it still under Porsche warranty as that is what the ad implies...

And is it a dealer? Because it appears to have been on sale since October last year - and if that is the case there may be a reason why it isn't selling:

http://cars.oodle.co.uk/detail/2006-06-porsche-box...

I nearly bought an ex press car via OPC and although it was mint, high spec (PCCB!), well maintained, I pulled out after a PHer alerted me it was a press car (dealer didn't know apparently) and I saw videos of it being ragged on track and completely airborne in a car mag!

Be careful!

My Cayman has PCCB, it was bought on 25k miles and has now done 38k. As far as I can tell the discs still look new, pads have gone from 10mm to 8mm according to my OPC.

I don't track the car regularly but have done a few laps of the ring and some mountain passes in Europe.

I do get a bit worried as the disc cost is ridiculous ( 2k each or more ) but so far it looks like they will outlast my ownership.

Not sure how much pads cost but I think more than normal Boxster / Cayman brakes as they are 6 piston on the front. I have seen them advertised for £250-300 for a set of pads so would be quite a lot fitted.

Mine was not a press car but the original owner definitely splashed out on around 15k worth of options!

Add in the cost of a service and 2 years of warranty and you arent a million miles away from OPC money....

Also ask what tyres it's on, are they Porsche approved, do they all match, and how much tread is left.

Well you did say to keep the feedback coming... biggrin
