Help!! Front boot 911 GTS flooded
Discussion
Haven't looked in the front boot for a couple of weeks. Had the occasion to do so today and was surprised to find the contents (coat, bag, book) soaking wet, and a centimetre of water in the floor under the black fabric panels and tool kit. Driving home dash flashed message that headlamp levelling system was faulty, which I take to be water damage to the circuit or sensor.
Apart from the obvious (boot lid left open in the rain, or faulty seal) has anyone got any other suggestions. Water tasted neutral, not like coolant solution, though I only dared barely touch it with my tongue. No coolant odour, but could it be radiator damage? radiator hose? Not soapy either so assume not windscreen washer reservoir/hose (checked that this was still working and yes it was).
Yes, I will be taking it into the OPC, but since there is some question mark over whether the flood is due to my negligence or a warrantable fault I could do with getting clued up.
Any help gladly received. And Manks, I know... shoulda bought a 991... Cheers

Blocked drainage ducts? I can't speak for the 911 but the Box/Cayman water from the windscreen area is ducted around the front boot and under the car and you can see and hear it quite easily when you are washing it.
I have never looked that specifically to see where they run but perhaps check for leaves or anything else that may be blocking those.

Yes, blocked drainage ducts are a distinct possibility.
I'm not sure about 997, but on the 996 they are located between the bottom of the screen and the rear wall of the front boot. If it is the same layout (any 997 owners confirm?) you need to remove the battery cover and the cowls on either side of the battery and have a good look to see if they're full of debris.
Good luck.

Though I do much prefer the 991 to the GTS, I cannot claim that my car has an indoor pool.
I'm fairly sure that drainage ducts run inside the 'A' pillars on pretty much every car, everywhere, but anyway...
I'd check to see where else in the boot is wet, e.g. inside the PCM / CD Changer compartment, and inside the battery area. I'd say that it's more likely a poorly fitted boot seal, probably around the top (windscreen) end, given the amount of water that you say was in there. The other thing would be to check the tool storage area if your car has BOSE, as this is where the amp is and could be damaged too.

Did find some gunk in what I assumed to be one of the the drainage holes. Had a fiddle with a stick and hopefully that will fix it. Will find out when it rains, which, being Yorkshire, won't be long. I heard they saved money on the GTS by replacing the rubber seals with vinyl ones.I'd check to see where else in the boot is wet, e.g. inside the PCM / CD Changer compartment, and inside the battery area.
