SP6 Lambda Sensor
Discussion
I'm guessing yours is an early ECU that uses the 3 wire lambdas. If so you only have one option, which unfortunately are the most expensive at c.150 quid each. The standard Land Rover units used on the V8 TVRs look identical but will only last for a few miles in a S6 as the heat kills them. The proper S6 ones are modified with higher temp insulation inside. I learned all this the hard way after an ex TVR dealer fitted the wrong ones to mine.
I know this thread is old.
But is the information provided true?
I have de-catted car and Lamda's I bought online for RR, part number is identical to the old sensors from my Tuscan.
What is the difference? This Heat Treating seems a little suspect to me, its an O2 sensor, its supposed to be exposed to very very high temps.
Can anyone really explain the difference and what you would see different. The Diagnostic software I use shows everything seems to be OK.

Ken, my service folks (Str8Six) retro fitted the 4-wire lambdas to my car....Guess it's a case of swapping the loom plug, but the additional earth - which the 4-wire lambdas are all about is just taken back to a convenient bolt on the engine.
I've heard the early Spd-6 engines did use the Rover V8 lambdas...but never heard anything about heat tolerance of the materials of construction??

As I guess you are referring to my post with the info, I'll explain where it came from. But is the information provided true?

When my battery went up in flames, the ex main dealer that did the repairs had to replace both sensors and put in standard V8 ones instead of the S6 specific versions. My car had the cats in back then and when it went in for a service to my usual specialist not long after with rough running, one of the sensors was dead and the other on it's way. It was them that pointed out the wrong sensors were in and my understanding is that the outer casing was removed by TVR and different insulator material used inside as the stuff in the standard ones melts due to the excessive heat where they sit in the S6 engine bay.
I guess if you're decatted then maybe the reduced heat means the standard LR ones cope ok?
