In around two hours a couple of my best pals will be landing in Los Angeles to commence an almost 3 week roadtrip in a Mustang starting from LA going up the coast to San Francisco acros and down through Death Valley, Vegas, San Diego and back up to LA.

I've told them to have a 'kin great time and take loads of pics, They're both single and have no ties so i know they'll have an absolute blast.

However I am absolutely gutted beyond belief, I've wanted to do a US Roadtrip for the last 20 years but lack of funds and having a better half and a 4 month old in tow put the brakes on that one.

To be honest even if I had a spare 3 grand I simply could not justify swanning off and leaving my new family at home, even though i nearly fell over when she said I could have gone seeing as it was always a dream of mine, but I know certain members of her family would have expressed their displeasure, again there is no way i would have gone.

I'm sat here like a sad t**t looking on planefinder and watching their plane pass over Colorado and thinking they'll shortly be realising a dream I have harboured for 20 years.

I am over the moon for them but deep down i'm jealous as fk and very very envious.

I think i'll crack open a beer and then curl up into a little ball.

You should have gone.

These opportunities only come up occasionally - you could fly out and meet them part-way for a shorter trip, and still enjoy it.

I'm as jealous as you are Chief.

Someday we'll get our turn as well. I like the idea of taking my son, so I'll be waiting for at least 10 years...

Have you got any route info or details of how they booked it?

I'm getting married next year and the OH has agreed we can do this very thing for our honeymoon

Any info would be greatly appreciated as I have no idea where to start

Plan your own trip with family, for a few years from now; it will be different obviously, and require more care, but could still be awesome.

This probably doesn't help...

But me and my mate went from Miami to Los Angeles last September. It was amazing.

You thought on missing out are correct...

That completely and utterly blows.

I'm afraid I cannot offer any advice.

I'm all sorted for a two week thrashing of my 911 in round Europe in a road trip early this summer covering a whole load of nice places...

....and then in late summer I am now booked for a two and half week road trip holiday in the US where I aim to hire something really silly like this:

You rightly should be gutted. It’s awesome.

This will make you feel better. boxedin
