i'm after a Vauxhall "red top" 16v for my Cavalier, was wondering what people think of this engine...
couple of things make me suspicious:
1. price almost too low, normally twice this price for a standard engine
2. dismantled for ease of storage? failed attempt to rebuild it after headgasket, block failure?
3. missing bottom pulley... big problem?
any thoughts gratefully recieved... don't want to buy a lemon! or am i being too suspicious

Dont buy dismantled engines!
Only buy them if youre allowed to dismantle it yourself first (ive done it) as youve NO idea of whether or not its any good, due to unscrupulous people swapping bits into the package from "another engine".
This can cause you all sorts of strife such as cam bearing caps not fitting (theyre machined for the cam in some engines), piston rings that are too slack/tight, excessive crank endfloat, in other words parts NOT being matched or way outa tolerance.
Also the seller cant spell "courtney" correctly so he's most likely a Ned.
HTH.
