Hello.

I got back from the greatest drive of my life last night, round all the major passes over in the Lakes. Some of the scenes were breathtaking and I'd love to do the same trip with PH'ers.

Late August looks relatively clear calendar wise so how's about we try to make a big event of it? i.e. pull people from Yorkshire, Derby... We could even arrange to stay over?

I have an idea of a route (a bit different to yesterdays)... I drove over there, did the 120 mile run and back again and was fine.

I'm up for this. There is a multi-region TVRCC event, 'TIFFIN IN THE DALES', 22nd August that promises some Cumbria driving. I'll not be going on that one because they've got too many cars already, 40-odd and that always creates a need for manic catch-up driving and getting seriously separated in towns.

Fewer cars, say 10 or 15 would work well. Did you identify any good stop-off places so we can stretch legs, picnic, chat and ogle, etc?

we did the four passes on Saturday, and the organiser had chosen routes so that we drove to a car-park on one of the routes, the pub for lunch, then he stopped in some passing places to allow everyone to catch up over the pass and then another pub and home.

I would do it slightly differently in that I'd try to avoid the towns (we had to split up quite drastically to get through Ambleside yesterday).

Hows about I speak to you on Saturday Bob and we'll take a little about it then? (you seem to be the organiser here )

Yup, I'd be up for this.
End of August is probably a no go as I should be going to the Callander Classic on 28/29/30th.
Weekend before that is the Tiffin, as already stated, and the weekend before that I won't be home.

How about early September?

Ah, I've just noticed "Tiffin in the Dales" is running 22nd. We could do the 27th but then we're in close proximity to both the above event and the Croft track day.

Who here is heading to Tiffin in the Dales?

I'm not actually sure many of us NE PH'ers are heading to tiffin in the dales actually...

Here's a plan then

* 4th September (28th is a Bank Holiday weekend)
* Everyone meet at the RegHed center (just off Penrith) to leave around 10:30. Figure it'd be easier for Newcastle ish to head over Alston or A69-M6 and 'boro ish to head over A66.
* a route of about 140miles, mostly on single track roads (you need to keep speed down <40mph usually but the views are stunning)
* Picnic / BBQ for lunch around 1.
* Fish and Chips for Tea.
* Visit Ambleside, Grasmere (lovely shortbread from here), and stop in Keswick.

I'm reckoning traffic could be bad, but I'm not too fussed, it's the company and scenery I'm heading for...

I'm not Tiffin in the Dales.

28th August or 4th September are both OK for me

28 August is Bank Holiday Saturday, might be a bit manic around the lakes.

The dales rn will be organsied so that you dont get too much of a problem

think of 60 -70 cars in smaller groups

All get together at stop offs

You know it'll be fun and the public will love it - faces and wherever you go

The tea alone will be worth it!

Not a snub Rich, the run I joined you on Spring 03 was my introduction to PH life away from the keyboard. I still consider it a memorable PH TVRCC event second only to PF03.

Can't remember. We set off from a pub carpark somewhere around York, drove to a gated single track road where we parked up for a while. The convoy passed a Griff travelling in the opposite direction. Drove through a village where the yocals were trying to have a church singsong in the square, sadly the rumble of our convoy put an end to that. Finished up at Nelsons.
