Has anyone been there? Apart from sunbathing, sight seeing and snorkling, what else does the place offer? Some friends want to go next year and have invited me and the missus.

I'm not really keen, as it is a helluva long way for a beach holiday!

I've not actually been to Bora Bora but as a specialist travel agent www.littleluxuryislands.co.uk, we offer and sell holidays to there and similar destinations.

Yes, it is a long way to go for what is in effect a beach holiday as a trip there will involve at least six separate flights (UK-LA-Tahiti-Bora then back again)and these come to around 2k per head alone. Few (if any!) resorts offer an all-inclusive fare and all food and drink is imported (plus subject to a high local tax), so staying there can be quite expensive- think best part of 9k for a ballpark figure- and we are one of the cheapest agents for this destination.

Please don't get me wrong as I have no wish to deter anyone from going there (it's my livlihood wink)but I think it only fair to state what's involved.

So, Bora Bora remains very exlusive, attracting Parisian millionares etc. and that's to its credit. Should you go, it will likely be the best holiday you've had!

(edited to sort formating-again!)

Went there 6 years ago, remember when flying from Tahiti the initial Ryan Air type panic to sit on the left hand side of the plane for a brain numbing view.

Stayed at Nova Hotel 50 pound a night then (now renamed and of coarse repriced, the Bora Bora Beach Resort) I do recall going to the moto's (outside island) and seeing lots of old fat ruskies with dental floss bikini wearing model like young girls hanging off the arms...and other bits I presume!

Nightlife very very laid back, great scuba driving like actually being in a your local sealife centre tank, middle main island has road around 20ish miles great cycle ride, service in outside ressies seems sketchy or as staff seem to resent anyone who doesn't speak french/has more money than them...is it worth it ?? well if you have 10k to throw away for 10 days and the misses looks good in a piece of string -on a bike then yes there a'int no better place to be...if not there are much cheaper places that are almost as good..

miles better than Bognor on a Bank holiday!

oh and a view from a moto...sorry but a partially cloudy day

I have been to Bora Bora also.

My main bit of advice would be to stay at a resort on one of the motus (coral islands on the lagoon fringe/barrier reef) as you can then look back at the main island and enjoy the view of Mt Otemanu and Mt Pahia.

I wouold personally opt for the Bora Bora Pearl Beach Resort and go for a beach suite instead of an overwater bungalow. They are much nicer and roomier and set on a part of the beach that no one else goes to, so feels very private.

To be honest there's not a huge amount to do on Bora Bora. The scuba diving is superb; manta cleaning station in the lagoon and lots of silvertip, black tip, lemon and grey reef sharks. Coral is fairly uninteresting, but viz on the outer walls of the reef is superb.

If yuou need any advice, you can contact me through my profile.

I've done the Maldives (twice) and Mauritius and had always written the Pacific off as the same thing but further away.

Holy st - Bora Bora has gone to the top of the bucket list!

You should watch the film 'Couples Retreat'.

It's not a great film, but it was filmed there. I had to Google where it was filmed after watching it on TV. Absolutely stunning!

Agree with Fezant Plucker - my wife and I stayed at the Pearl Beach Resort 2 years ago although opted for the overwater bumgalow - the views were stunning and snorkelling was superb - swam with a ray in the lagoon which was amazing.
Also went on a shark and ray feeding trip with "Sharkboy" which was also good fun.

The only negative comments I have about the Pearl Beach is around the quality of the food - given that you pay a shed load of cash to go to Bora Bora I was expecting a much higher quality of food than we received.

I think both my wife and I posted reviews on Trip Advisor which I can point you to if you like.
