Following a bit of sideways interaction with a kerb I decided to call MS for a wheel refurb and oil change at short notice. They offered me a loan car for the day but I said I was busy and had a lot of work to do on my laptop.

So I drove to MS from London and was greeted by Peter in servicing. He told me I could have exclusive use of the 'Executive Suite' (overlooking the showroom) for the day, free use of their Wifi and telephone for my work, a free lunch for whatever I wanted to order, and also offered to bring hot drinks up to the suite for me!

At the end of the day I went downstairs and was given the keys to a new 991 Cab to take out for a drive... Alas I came back 2 hours later after exploring the Sussex countryside and having a LOT of fun in what I can only describe as the best 911 Carrera I have ever driven - reviews aside I highly recommend you drive the 991 as it is one amazing car and Porsche have reset the standard.

Customer service is king, and thanks to Peter, Emma and the other great staff @ MS, I can say that Mid Sussex has still got it.

Good to hear. The closest I get to that place is taking the progeny swimming at the triangle.

Yes when i had my 996 tt, I only used them to service it although i live in London. I now have a 993 tt and use an indie who knows my car inside out.

They have clearly done a very good job and for a modest investment have achieved a high value outcome.

They have a happy customer - the lowest level of return.

Much more importantly they have a potential new customer and they have targeted marketing in the heart of the buying community, complete with picture winksmile

the thing i really like about OPC Mid Sussex is their enthusiasm in the product. Peter really knows his onions and the last time i was there to pick up my half worn cup's they'd stored over the winter for me he was keen to show me round the workshop. in the workshop they had a 3.8 GT3 RS engine on the bench which they were doing a rebuild on (chap missed a gear on a trackday), they were doing a full resto on a '75 Carrera 3.0 targa for an australian chap and had a really eclectic mixture of old and new pork in for routine servicing. not what you would expect at all from an OPC, and i was extremely impressed. also the approachable attitude of the sales team is also rather alien for a prestige car dealer, in my experience. really nice guys, all of them.

Yes I forgot about the 75' 911 shell in the workshop. They are doing a complete restoration from nuts and bolts up, and are looking to become a centre for restoration in the UK. Peter's description of the work being carried out on this car is really fascinating. I think he mentioned a 356 restoration project is next...

I'd only ever take my car to OPC Mid-Sussex when I had a Porsche - they always really impressed me with exactly this kind of service

If only I could find a BMW dealer who's as good!

I'm a recent convert. Took the GT3 in for routine service and the quality of service I received was anything but routine. I will definitely be using them again. Got to arse around in a shiny new 991 C2S for the day too. Peter and Jeremy were superb.

Yeah that's actually a genuinely big arse. It looked bloody massive parked up next to a C class at mine the other day.

As I mentioned the other day my 997 went in for some warranty work and I was told to go away for the day and enjoy myself in a brand spanking new Red 991 C2S - I was told 'put as many miles on as you like, go away and enjoy it' .......

So I did, nearly two tanks worth of enjoyment that day biggrin

Won't take my car anywhere else.

This is a refreshing story.

Along similar lines, the new OPC in Portsmouth is about to introduce what they're calling "Direct Dialogue" - there will be one ramp dedicated to having a technician walk you round the underneath of your car, to show what's needed and why. That overcomes my main frustration with using any main dealer - having to go through a Chinese whisper process through a service advisor, who usually knows a lot less about cars and basics principles than I do.

What a marvellous idea.

I don't want to rain on all your parades, but when I booked my car in with Mid Sussex on a promise of a manual 997 or Cayman courtesy car, I was presented with a white automatic Boxster and was told along the lines of: "You've got a free car for a day, be grateful". No movement, no debate.

Which to be fair is not unreasonable. I'm sure it was a disappointment but not as bad as "sorry no car," which has happened to me in the past (not with Porsche).

Interesting but only relevant if we know how much it cost. I assume they used a third party mobile guy for the wheel.

Completely fair normally, but I only booked my car in on the condition that I got a manual 911 or Cayman. When I arrived, they told me they 'were all out'.
