Pad Choice

Need to change the front pads on my S3 (standard brakes) was thinking of getting "green stuff" any views as the search engine is down. Discs are still good but current pads have gone very rusty even though they are barely worn.

I have 'green stuff' pads fitted, found them to be as good as anything else for general use and perhaps more spirited driving. No hesitation in using them again.

In my experience green stuff should be ok for road use, if you plan on going on a track day at all then they will be no good, I always used Mintex 1144 pads on my S3 and even have them on my Honda S2000 now.

Had Green Stuff on the Chimaera, scary when stone cold but just 3 or 4 stops to put a little heat in and they were fine

I just bought some Brembo discs for our trip to spa. Mine were down to minimum thickness so new pads and discs for me.

I was going to go for EBC yellow stuff pads on mine. My thinking being green stuff won't handle track work I don't think, red stuff is for heavy powerful cars which the S isn't really. But the yellow stuff work from cold but still work at 800° by which point my wheels will be on fire!

On a side note I got the brembo vented discs for £30 delivered.

I have Green Stuff Pads on the front of mine, also put the drilled and grooved discs on when changing.

Found them much improved over standard on track days. They do seem to produce more muck under normal driving conditions though so hope you have the dust covers for then (def take the covers off for track days though).

I ran GreenStuff for a while. They felt a bit wooden for the first few miles on really cold winter days, but they were OK once they were warmed up. They were great when they were hot too - they seemed to grip better and better the hotter they got. But the big disadvantage for me was disc wear. I was going through discs almost as fast as pads on the track. My favorite pads now are Ferodo DS 2000. They feel just as good as the GreenStuff pads did, and have a similar temperature range, but without all the disc wear.

Bit surprised by the disc wear issue as I thought Green Stuff were suposed to be kind to discs. I am however minded towards the Ferodo DS 2000 now when I can get around to it.
