Hi Pork Lovers,

My Mother has just test driven a 991s pdk... she absolutely loved it, is now telling me she really wants one and asking what i think. Personally, for 95k, I could see myself looking at a lot of other metal before a 911, but that's just me.

Does anyone have any suggestions to alternative around this price bracket, or is the 991 really that good? Bearing in mind she is on her 3rd 911 already.... she uses it everyday and does not have any kids to worry about, so backseats are not necessarily needed, but it does have to be 'practical' (i.e. she needs to be able to fit her bags of wine from Waitrose into it!) . She tried a Vantage S and hated the gearbox, then tried a Virage and absolutely loved it.

Anyone's suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

The new 911 is just too expensive. I was on the configurator last week and my chosen spec came out at £101K! eek

Has your mother considered an R8?

Jag XKR? Hell of a lot cheaper than the 991.

Series 1 1964 3.8 FHC E Type ?

As far as looks go, will upstage almost any porsche you care to throw at it, especially the modern ones. Less 'Alderley Edge' and more 'Badmington house' if you get my meaning. They drive quite nicely as well. smile

She's had multiple 911s.

She's driven the 991.

She loves it.

Why would you want to persuade her to get something other than the car she's already fallen for?

No doubt its a good car and its her money so I wouldn't try too hard to talk her out of it.

But I would ask her, if she was my mother, to have a look at a Maser GranTurismo at a similar price before signing

Doesn't need the rear seats, more room for wine?

New Boxster (S) with a few options?

Not sure I'd want a Series 1 E-Type as an everyday car. Brakes are crap and a 911, even an earlier one such as a 964 are worlds apart in terms of everyday practicality. Jag is one of the most beautiful cars ever made but ancient technology with handling, braking, steering and safety almost token gestures. Tell her to stick with a 911.

2 - 3 year old F430's can be had for around 90K now so long as you don't need a back seat.

Thanks for the replies guys.

My Mum really does have Porsche stamped all over her head. She's had a 993, a 996 and a 997, keeping each for 5+ years.

Cars she had already considered apart from the Astons are the Maser GT-S MC (which I am absolutely in love with). She tried a Turbo, but that was way to much power for her.

I don't think she would be able to handle a Gallardo everyday, with the reactions they get just poodling abut town. She's really not a fan of Boxsters, and is not taken by the shape of the R8. I think the e-type, however gorgeous looking it is, would be a nightmare as a DD, especially as she loves her mod cons as well.

It might be an idea to get her into a 430? Otherwise I am giving her my blessing! biggrin

what's worng with the vantage S gear box, I took one out for the day and thought it was quite good, but it did have to be in sports mode.

on a + note the new 4.7 Vantage has all the Vantage S mods as standard but you can choose a manual :-)

I would say Maserati Gran Turismo. Style, sound, and practicality. Also XK8 (or XKR) might interesting(and cheaper). I think all Astons are over-priced for they offer.

She knows what she likes and has probably already made her (the corect)decision.
I tested the 991 C2S PDK and also loved it.

Consider 997 Turbo

Why don't you let your Mam buy the 991S she likes so much and you get yourself a 430 or so?
