To shield or not to shield...

Morning,

The T350 had a little rear end shunt and so while it was getting re-sprayed on the rear I decided to get the front done as well, so next week she will be returned all shiny and like new!!

Now I am left with the issue of whether to paintsheild/armourfend her or not. I personally don't particularly like the look, with that hard edge it always leaves. So I'm after your views:

A. Paintsheild or Armourfend, any difference??
B. Does it actually last any longer looking great than the paintwork itself (looking great is the important bit here).
C. What looks better, a stone chip in paint or a stone mark in the shielding?
D. How well does the shield polish up?

I cant answer A B C or D but i know that these shield plastic coverings look crap and im sure they are good at protecting your paint and would sute a car with pannel gaps to stop creating that hard edge that collects polish.
You should let you car mature properly, stone chips in fiber glass cars happer a lot easer and at the end of the day is you car a show pice princess trailered to shows with mirrors underneath to show how clean it is or do you drive it, enjoy it and show its used!

I have Armourfend on my tuscan and defo would recomend it, but only if it is fitted by someone who knows what the are doing.
I dont really notice it and it has saved the front end from chips for sure.

I have it front, middle and back... And after a respray, it's going back on. It is that good.

I have no idea why individuals say this stuff is crap - they must of had very bad jobs done for them.

Mine is on a specflair car, it is a fantastic thing to have done and I can not recommend it enough. Have a look in my profile pic, it is hard to know it is there even really close up.

You have to bear in mind that those of us who do not have armourfend or similar have to go on what we see and all the cars I have ever seen have a very distinct edge to the shield and have always looked orange peelish where the shield is.
Until I get to see some cars that change that view it would a no for me.

No dig at the guys who have it is intended, if it works for you and you are happy with the look or have managed to procure a better product then good luck with it.

Mine was already on the car when i got it but i think it was done at s&d in blackpool when it was painted. After a recent trip to TVR power there bodyshop guy commented about how good a job it was and that he wouldnt want to have to mess with it. Maybe iv just been lucky but there is no orange peel on mine, having said that i havnt seen much others to compare.

Daft question, but do you treat the armor fend in a different wat when polishing/waxing the car ?

Don't use paste waxes or liquid waxes, hard wax only, the others have solvents which can cause the film to yellow.

Here is a closeup can you see the paint shield? Yes just about if you know where to look. Is it better than stone chips? IMO yes

Nope, I just wash it normally, and polish down to the 'lip' making sure there is no line of dried polish on it.

No orange peel here either?

Here's a pic of it - the shield finishes 2 inches above the badge.

One more concern is that neither PS or AF has an existing T350 cut out, does it cost extra to be the first? I guess I can just call them.

I'll check with original ownwer but pritty sure its Armourfend, still looks good now and runs round front on sides and rear as well as the mirrors.

I have a VXR220 armourfended and it is money well spent. Sorry to add a question to this thread but I am sure the originator will appreciate the question. I am just about to have it done to a tuscan 2 S can you guys reccommend what parts to have covered bonnet for sure.

Who owns the Laser Blue T350t in there at the moment, anyone on here?

that doesn't look too bad, is that Paintshield or Armourfend?
