right, gents( and gentesses) , I'm planning one last trip up north at the end of may up the north west coast .To somewhere north of Fort William .The area I know well-it's my home territory, but any advice on new hazards ( including ones to the wallet) would be welcome. I know most of the cash collecting sites from the border( with England) to Fort Bill, but new ones crop up regularly . Any advice on how to get to the Clyde tunnel from the m8 would be helpful now that the new link is in place( her indoors has problems going over Erskine bridge).

If you're coming from the south, don't bother with the city centre bit of the M8, just stay on the M74 right through to the end, aim for the outer 2 lanes as you get parallel to the M8 (follow signs for Greenock/Airport), then once on the M77 has gone over your head & you're on the M8 proper, keep towards the left & leave at the junction signed A739 Tunnel/Southern General Hospital (J25).

Be careful on the new bit of the M74. Speed limits are 50/60 and are enforced.

Thanks, the bit about the tunnel was what I wanted. I've seen the warnings about enforcement on the 50 limits.

Bump - any info on cash hazards north of Glasgow.I know of the ski lift trap in Glencoe, but any more would be welcome as I tend to make "good progress" once out of Glasgow. We used to do Glasgow-FW in around 2 hours ,before the Balaslush bridge was put in . (And that was in 60/70 RWD CARS) .

Thanks ,mate . Bridge of Orchy site is the large laybye just before there? Typical SCP trap, on a long straight ?Strangely enough I've always gone through there slowly, as there's a lot of pedestrians, but where they sit ,there's none .
Any more ???

I'd be taking it easy from Tyndrum all the way to Glencoe. There was a fatal accident the other day south of Glencoe killing two guys frown so I imagine the police presence might be upped!

Bumped this as I had one thought. I always found fuel cheapest around J10 (?)Easterhouse on the M8. Any changes to make coming of the M74, to pick this junction up ? Do I just keep on up the M74 ,r do I have to look at at other routes?

NA ,MATE , I come from a west coast village which used to land more herring than Aberdeen, but it's a nice offer .I'd have to get my phrase book out, as my east coast gaelic is a bit rusty, ( Y'ken loon). My mothers folks did come from around that area , so I know of the area.smile, but more of the Buckie area. Funnily enough, my missus family( though from the NE of England,)also hail from fishing stock in the East coast. We joke that perhaps we're distant relations. smile
OT- I once worked in Africa, where the native labourers would converse in their own tongue ,if they didn't want us to know what was said. The mobile mechanic that came out to service my truck was an East coaster. We used to get our own back by conversing in broad Scots. Totally baffled them .His labourer understood him, till we started to talk at the speed most East coasters talk .

You'll need to be a bit more specific,it's a big area

That's one big area . I'd say 3 hours from Glasgow might put you in the area of the Great Glen Youth Hostel somewhere north of Spean ( approx 2.5 hours), and the hostel in Glen Nevis ,Fort William ( approx 2 hours, but I'd say less) .Can't get much cheaper than that .
But back to my question .Does the m74 join the M8 BEFORE or after J10 ( Easterhouse),where the shopping park is ?
