The sun's out, you got a couple of hours to kill so you take the car for a drive... Where do you go?

Just wondering if anyone has any favourite roads they enjoy driving round here just for the hell of it. Me? I don't really have any in particular, which is the point of this topic I guess. Remember some nice ones out towards Salisbury (I think). There was a pub nearby called the World's End or something, but this is several years ago do have no idea where exactly.

Ok, might be mistaken about the world's end inn. Just found it on a map and it's not the area I was thinking...

Worlds End isnt really that far out of the way so you can keep it on the list. The Dorset Way dual carriageway used to be a popular early hours haunt but since plod have got hot on the case / the new 50mph limit its gone quiet down there. Avon Causeway, when its quiet is also a nice area for a drive. The back roads from Poole to swanage are also good fun, especially the Wareham Rd straights.

I like driving over to Swanage when the suns out and topping for lunch somewhere nice.

The Forest is good but can get busy and strict speed restrictions.

Head out to Blandford, from there take the Higher road to Shaftesbury then take the road to Salisbury, once in Salisbury you can tahe the Ringwood road back to Poole/Bournemouth. Should be good for a couple hours hoonage although the final stage might be a little slower due to slow drivers/lack of overtaking places

The downside to our area though is that you've really got to time it right, ie get up early or go out when everyone is at work. I've gone out on impromptu hoons in the past only to be plagued by caravans, jams and generally poor driving environments. Easy way to waste £50+ when fuel is £1.50ltr. Saying that, last summer I threw in the towel on a quiet afternoon at work as there was nothing to do. It was a Wednesday at 3pm and route from Cadnam to Christchurch through the forest was dead. That was probably one of the best runs I've had down here. Not strictly the best business plan but the experience more than made up for any lost income.

I like this if time to spare

http://maps.google.co.uk/maps?saddr=Castle+Ln+E%2F...

This is much shorter

http://maps.google.co.uk/maps?saddr=Castle+Ln+E%2F...

And a personal favourite

http://maps.google.co.uk/maps?saddr=Castle+Ln+E%2F...

and none of these take as long as Google maps suggests smile

B3081 from near Ringwood up to Shaftesbury is fun (and scenic too!) - not done it for a while so hope it hasn't been cursed by speed limits.

Also slight deviation from Stone Cold's first route would be to take the B3089 through Hindon and Teffont back to Salisbury rather than the A303/A36.

Some great roads on Purbeck (test driven a few cars there) but wouldn't bother with the New Forest, too much traffic not enough fun smile

Wimborne to Blandford on the Badbury Rings Road, then the lower road to Shaftesbury then immediately right on to the Blandford high road, hang left up the infamous Zig zag hill. Zig Zag is fun, but in my opinion the real fun starts once you get clear of them, the fast flowing roads that follow them are a joy. So, on through Six Penny Handley to the roundabout, straight over across Cranborne Chase second left, then at the T-junction right towards Wimborne. This is one of my favourite roads, nice bit of twisty stuff and some nice straights to despatch the plodders. Then you have a choice, either left by the Horton Inn, through Horton, three Legged Cross, Moors Valley and back to the top of the Spur Road. Alternatively, follow the Cranborne Road back to Wimborne, equally fun. Shame jungle juice is so pricey these days, used to do this route a lot.

Organised a rideout a few years back and made sure higher and lower bland/shaft roads were in it, as well as dorch/brid/wey triangle, cranborne chase and finally corfe/langton and back on ferry. Different in summer on bikes, of course.

Or really late.

Hmm... There's an idea. A late night south coast meet/route...

A dorset night run/meet. Think if it's a warm spring time one it should be good.

Anyone here be interested? We'd be talking about 9-10pm start maybe, not an early evening thing.

I should be up for that, date dependant etc. I'm sure I can round up a few other stragglers too.

Excellent, thanks guys. Will give these all a go as soon as possible. Don't really preplan any of my hoons and as a result find they're not always as good as they could be. I'd be up for a night run also.

The B roads around the 3081 are great, I especially like the sweeping bend just after zig-zag, along the top the the valley biggrin

I went around there during the day and it was very low traffic, and what was there was fast moving. thumbup

Much better than the A272 which you always get stuck behind a micra, behind a van, behind a lorry thats behind a tank.
