Mrs Hoddo and I would like to holiday for 2 weeks from the end of June. Running short of ideas, we have looked at loads of places and are unable to agree on a destination, I believe this is perhaps down to the accommodation - recent holidays have included small self catered flats in Greece to private pool villas in Bali to large, well run all inclusive hotels in Mexcio. Now we want aspects of all these and confusion has set in.

Here is a list of requirements:
- Hot 28C+ (do not mind the odd shower but torrential rain is to be avoided)
- Relatively inexpensive destination - makes Euro countries less appealing - we like to eat out so favourable exchange rate would be a positive thing.
- not too fussed about the type of board, we do like to eat out but have done all inclusive in the past and found it enjoyable.
- Historic things to visit (culture/history) AND/OR activities to do (scuba, 4x4 desert etc)
- £1,000 per person but can go higher if the holiday appears to be mega.

Any hotel destinations you can make or agents you have used would also be appreciated. The high street vendors tend to just spool off large faceless hotel after another.

Let me know if I've missed any points off.

Inspire me.

Try Nisala Arana in Bentota Sri Lanka. Small "Boutique" hotel run by Ben Perreira and his family, excellent food, beautiful gardens. Me and wifey went there in 2010 and had the place almost to ourselves.

Lots to do in Sri Lanka and everything is cheap.

Kuredu in Maldives - spend the whole time diving. It'll be low season so there will be some rain but won't matter as well into 30s. Some of the best scuba on the planet. Go all inclusive or you'll blow your budget to smithereens.

Been myself, but for 1k a head for a fortnight? Not even in the bog standard garden bungalows, more like 2k a head.

In addition to those that have been mentioned somme sort of Nile cruise would be in budget, another Carribean destination. The Gambia is very nice and cheap when you're there.

Have you looked at Malaysia ? Stunning beaches and cheap when you get there. Likewise Thailand is worth a look. I went a couple of years ago. The Buddhist temples can be stunning.
