I'll be needing some new boots for my car soon and wondered if there had been any developments in tyre availability for my car?

Last time Michelin Pilot Sport 2's were in short supply, so I ended up with Bridgestones, but I don't rate them quite as highly.

I know the Michelin Pilot Super Sport is now available, but unless someone can tell me differently, we are still waiting for 'N' rated versions...??

Failing that, anyone know of any special offers on tyres?

Thanks

If not under warranty fit SuperSports, no better tyre!

Otherwise fit PS2's as they are available.

My car is under warranty, so non N-rated tyres are not an option.

I've probably got a month or two left in the current tyres, so hope that the approval for the SuperSports can't be too fair away!

PS2's are still the best option with a warranty imo untill PSS become N rated.

Sadly this!

There's going to be an N rated Dunlop Sport Maxx Race which will be good, don't know when it's out though.

Just fit supersports, no dealer or Porsche is going to refuse a warranty claim because you have supersports on,

Is it worth the marginal performance increase? I've heard some horror stories about N rated tyres.

1) It's not up to the dealer

2) The warranty terms are the warranty terms - why pay for a warranty and then risk voiding that warranty (regardless of whether fitting different tyres could realistically affect other parts or not).

???

Links?

The Porsche Experience Centre at Silverstone use non-N rated Super Sports on some of their cars.....

Part of the test for extending the warranty is to have N rated tyres all round. They may not decline a claim on an existing warranty (depends if it's a new car warranty, or extended, and how lucky you are), but they are under no obligation to extend it at renewal.

Bad idea if you want to keep a warranty on the car. Period.

Probably won't help, but "blackcircles" have the PS2s in stock - and many other internet providers.

I just got mine fitted a 2-3wks ago on my 997.1RS and they work wonders: just got back from a 2day trip to Paris: came back under heavy rain the whole way: averaged 76mph over the whole 875miles trip smile

Don't be cheap in trying to get a bargain, save 50GBP: get N-rated they are Porsche approved...safety first!

See my post above! So are the PEC cars unsafe?

I don't have any belief that non N-rated tyres are unsafe, and I'm sceptical that the N-rated tyres are that different to the non N-rated versions.

However, for warranty reasons, they are essential.

Off on a very slight tangent, still in relation to tyres.....
My better half has just bought a 2000 2.7 Boxster and it needs tyres.
I know it 'should' have 'N' tyres but is it really that critical? If the concencious is that anything but N's and it'll be a hedge seeking missile then that'll be what it gets but identical size quality tyres give about £150 a set saving. rotate
Safety is always the prime objective but she's not exactly a trackday queen......are they worth it?

If you don't have the Porsche extended warraty then you shouldn't have any problems.

Why not fit Continental Sport Contact 3?

N rated and to the everyday driver a good tyre with the addition benefit of being at the cheaper end of the £ scale.

Oh it's a long way from any warranty. wink

My price comparison was based on Conties. wink

If there's a safety issue or a measurable performance advantage then I'd go for 'N's' but if it's just a 'Porsche Tax' then 'normal' quality rubber it is. rotate

Be mad to not fit supersports, far better than a ps2 which in turn is far better than a conti.

Test,s were done with 911,s for the supersport. It,s an amazing road tyre, been using them since lauch day.

Always amazed by Porsche owners trying to cut corners for £150. Hope these are the only corners you are saving on!

Never heard of Ferrari/Lambo owners cutting short on their rubbers.
