We fancy breaking up a journey from the Lake District to Bristol (M6/M5 corridor) and I'm looking for recommendations of places to visit within an hour of the motorway. I don't mind where it is but ideally we'd be stopping for lunch and coffee.

We're NT members so we can get in for free.

Any suggestions please?

Attingham Park is about half an hour from J11 of the M6. It is lovely, but I can't remember if it has a tea room.

No matter, as The Mytton & Mermaid Hotel is just across the road.

Hanbury Hall is close to the M5 and has interesting gardens, an interesting large house, walks and a very well equipped, eclosed children's play area.

ETA also shop, tea room, toilets etc.

Assuming Cheshire isn't too far north for your stop:

Little Moreton Hall: http://www.nationaltrust.org.uk/little-moreton-hal...

Quarry Bank Mill: http://www.nationaltrust.org.uk/quarry-bank-mill/

or

Dunham Massey: http://www.nationaltrust.org.uk/dunham-massey/

Of these, the last is the shortest detour from your route but all are less than 30 mins detour. All have food (although the cafe at LMH isn't enormous).
