all you need to do is spend a couple of hundred quid to get a 07 steering wheel fitted smile

Don't you just love the new terminology for 'Look-alike'

Back-date, re-creation, etc.
Puts me in mind of a 1.3L Escort made to into a RS 2000 by simply adding alloys.smash

Back Date seems like a fairly accurate description to me and I don't get your Escort analogy at all. It's not a replica or 'look alike' of anything in particular, just a nice looking 911 that probably goes really well and should be easy to live with.

Well, I went to look at this on Saturday and it is a great piece of work to be honest.

Met the chap who did the 'back date', my god, absolutely great bloke - had original 73 RS in there being totally stripped down and rebuilt. Knows old Porsches inside out.

It's not original, or trying to be an RS, so to me it sits quite nicely, just being itself smile

Drives really, really well, pulls like a train above 3500rpm and sounds simply wonderful.

Still checking space in the garage to make sure I have enough space for 2 rashers of Pork...

I've got the space but can't afford the extra rasher.

Can you elaborate on the driving experience? I see you've had some very nice cars in your time.
I'd be particularly interested to hear your views on how the backdate compares to your previous 993 in terms of comfort, speed, handling, noise, general driveability.

Well, slower than the 993, but that had 450bhp so most things are!

Not as polished as many cars perhaps, but the senses came alive when pressing on in the car.

Loads of feel and definitely had a real 'sense of speed' about it.

Would I swap a 993 as nice as yours for it, probably not.

Would I buy one as an addition. Probably yes smile

Sorry, I was just refering back to this previous post and giving it it's correct, long established discription.. a replica!

Apologies, just joking obviously.

Replica, recreation, back date, whatever.

It's still a lovely thing. Would be terrific to take down to Le Mans for the Classic!

That's an interesting point.

If this car had been restored to original spec as a '79 SC then it'd be "worth" £10k less, so the only way the seller can attempt to justify its price is to turn it into a replica.

That's a bit weird, isn't it. £15,000 for a fully restored SC? Are they not that popular?

Not really, not the best of the breed or very loved esp early lower power ones, have seen few basic '73 reps on SCs at 20+k price tags that would be 8k tops if were still SCs & not expensive to do a cheap conversion on one.

The madness prices rises of early cars & RS, GT2 etc aircooled stuff has pulled many other models up on their coat tails.

good luck with that - most of the 10k SCs I see are sheds. Same goes if you expect a 15 grand car to be properly restored. Unless it's a home job the numbers just don't stack up.

Try adding 10 grand, then some more & you'd be there wink

I've no problem with it being a 'nice looking 911' but my Escort analogy is simply stating IT'S A LOOK-ALIKE. If i want a car that looks like it's pre 1974, i will buy one registered before 31/12/1973.banghead
