On behalf of a mate. Moaning last night that selecting 1st when cold is virtually impossible. Normally has to go into 2nd then to 1st. Is this normal folks.

Hmm - mine has the "short shift" and it's only reluctant to go into 2nd when cold ....

Mine has the short shift and is a little stiff when cold going into 1st as well. Goes in though and warms up relatively quickly!

Had my entire gearbox replaced by Porsche Guildford and can't feel any difference... must be a feature like the interesting exhaust noises on startup

If you double de-clutch it's much easier!

As I was explaining to the girlfriend when she had both hands on the gear stick the other day:
before you need to select 1st, select neutral, release the clutch pedal, re-engage the clutch pedal, select 1st...

Works a charm.

Mine is the same when it's cold in the morning

Just drive it gingerly and not exceed 3.5k revs till the oil gets to 90 and the coolant is at 80. By that time the gearbox oil is warm and it all loosens up nicely and off you go!

2nd to 1st is the method that works best for me, because sometime double-declutch doesn't work! It's a "quirk".

Mine even crunches into second when it isn't warmed up, I have learnt to let the revs drop to idle between the 1st and 2nd gear for the first few minutes of a drive...

Lovely car, I'm partial to Ferrari also

Probably not long though until it's German, how many times has Aston been sold?

Maybe Indian next, then German :-)

It's all about getting the clean meshing of the teeth to start with... I'm sure we all agree that too much teeth is basically bad. Agreed that in the next phase, when she's warmed up, everything goes in a lot easier...

Just had my 997.1 into OPC for this exact thing. They said it was fine after they test drove it for me. I am not massively convinced. It just seems very hard to get into first or second and not what I expected from such an expensive car. It is only for a short time when cold...so I am not going to stress about it.

Love the rest of the car.

Also took mine in, even got them to do an FOC oil change on it, didn't make a damn itt of difference, I've stopped worrying about it seems the gearboxes prefer warmer climates like me lol
