Why Don't People Like Their Photo Being Taken?

British Broadcasting Chappies' R4 "Midweek" has started by establishing its guests don't like their photo taken.



But why is this that generally we/general public don't like it?

I do ID passes for staff and none of them like their photo, i know it's not portrait stuff but no matter what they look like they are never happy with themselves.

Because not all of us look like George Clooney

People go funny when you hold a camera up to thier face (unless they are models, actors, presenters, etc), so they end up posing in a way which they would never normally be in real life. I think this is why people prefer candid shots of themselves, they recognise that person who is behaving in the way they natually behave.

I'm with you on this one as I have an inherent design flaw that only allows me to smile when i am actually happy. Funny that.

Because people have a self image that is rarely what they see in a photo.

How many times have you heard a good looking woman complain that she looks terrible in a photo?

Or an ordinary looking person saying the same about a photo that's actually quite flattering?

Quite a lot I suspect.

For some reasons I look like a rather overweight middle aged man in photos, whereas I'm actually a powerfully built multi-company director, like everyone else on PH

I think radio people would prefer their imagined image to remain.

I heard a rumour that people are more likely to like a photo of themselves if it is mirrored - So it would be the way that they usually see themselves.

I have no idea if this is actually true or not.

Not only do most people hate how they look, it's my experience that they also hate how they sound.

The thing there is, we all know what we look like, but we rarely know what we actually sound like, so it's always a little surprising to hear your own voice, as it isn't how it sounds in your own head..

Or at least that's my take on it..
