996 Engine Noise... Should I be worried???

Just had my 98 Tiptronic 996 out to take the girlfriend to town. I usually hear a rattle on start up when the engine is cold but I noticed when I pulled back up to the flat that a "whoooo whoooo whoooo whoooo" sound was coming from the engine.
It does not disappear whilst on the move either as I thought I could hear it off the walls I was driving past.
Appears loudest on the passenger side. Performance does not appear to have been affected either.
Could it be the exhaust? Going by other posts I presume if it was really serious the engine would have given up pretty quickly?
Any thoughts would be much appreciated as I do not want to seem like another paranoid Porsche owner taking the car the indy?

As daft as this sounds, was it a "whoooo", or more of a "moooooo"?
Seriously, sometime my 996tt Moo's.............Yes, like a cow.
Mine only does it at tickover, sometimes when hot, sometimes from cold. Had it back to my local indi many times over 2 years, never been able to solve it. But it's never effected the car.

As soon as you add some revs it shuts up.
