Forget cost but if you had the choice of either a very good 3.0SC, 3.2 or 964 carrera 2 which would you choose and why, looks, engine, driver involvment etc.

you should setup a "poll"

in my case a nice 964 C2 - aircool rocks and they are so much smaller than the 996/997/991 which is really nice, and the visibility much better i found smile

3.2 for that really raw feel, no power stearing, no ABS on the brakes and proper old suspension makes it feel like a go-kart.

Not a lot really wrong the others either really though to be honest. 964 can look really slick.

Real raw driving experience, great direct feel through the steering wheel and seat of your pants (can feel the smallest of pimples on the road), not a quick as a 964, but with well sorted suspension, brakes and an LSD, unbeatable smiles per miles.

Generally very robust mechanicals, rust is the item to watch out for

3.2c with G50 box........lovely car
Albeit the SC feels more revvy

Not a fan of the 964 unless we are talking turbo 3.6/RS etc

I'm sure the 964 probably feels (and is) quicker.

The 3.2 despite being newer than the SC still looks more 'classic'

The SC isnt without charm, but it really did feel much older than the 3.2 despite being incredibly similar.

To make my final decision, I'd like to sit a 964 and 3.2 next to each other and have a consecutive blast to really suss out the little details of each.

But for now, I'll stick with the 3.2 driving

If you're going to use it a lot, 964 all the way.

Here's mine for inspiration.

It depends on how much you plan to use it, but the 964 will be easier to live with on a daily basis and that'd be my choice.

Having owned two 964 c2s, two SCs and one 3.2 I have been in exactly this dilemma. I fact I was mulling this very question over in my mind yesterday as I was driving my SC. The 964 is certainly the easiest of the three to live with, particularly in the winter when a good heater really helps. The 3.2 is a great car but in my opinion it's largely a less-revvy version of the SC. The 915 box is a lovely thing IMO and really adds to the experience so a later 3.2 is not my cup of tea. So the SC ticks the box for me in that it is a great, revvy drive with brilliant steering (which the 3.2 also has) and the joy of a good 915 box. Given the value of good SCs I think it's very hard to beat as a driving experience although the 964 is an easier daily driver to live with and I'm still tempted to get another. The fact I've currently got two SCs says where my vote goes! All are awesome machines in their own right of course.

I have a 3.2 carrera thats standard a 964 carrera 4 thats lowered and uprated its chipped with decat and g pipe.Driving both back to back you can feel they have the same DNA,but the 964 needs mods to be fun to drive.I also have a 993 and I really cannot see why they are considered to be so much better than the 964?

Because the press put them up on a pedestal as "the last of the air-cooled cars" and thus by default the best.

I'm with you, IMO they're little or no better than the equivalent well maintained 964.

the problem is that 98% of 964s are poor whereas most 993s are OK so people's experience is that the 993 is better.

A refreshed 964 feels twice as tight and half the weight of a 993.

Whilst I do think a nice 964/993 would be great, I do keep looking at the Paul Stephens HotRodbiggrin. Something with a 3.2 engine, G50, rebuilt so no rust and a strong engine would be brilliant. Oh yes, and with a weight of around a tonne, it should fly! And then there's the looks...

Interesting topic.

I had a pretty focused 964 and now am considering a 993, 3.2 or another 964.

I have driven a 3.2 briefly and power felt really nice, it didnt feel as old as I thought it would.

The steering was biggest difference for me, but not in a bad way.
