Seen some flats on Right Move on Oswald Street - any thoughts guys?
A colleague used to live there, was put off by the junkies using the bin stores as a shooting gallery - might be better now though! Traditionally that's not a nice area of the City Centre anyway, I personally wouldn't live down there and I've lived in Glasgow all of my life.I'd be trying to get somewhere in the Park District/Woodlands - like this http://www.rightmove.co.uk/property-to-rent/proper... ETA it's on street permit parking which is cheap and not too bad getting a space up that neck of the woods.

I lived in The Herald Building for 18 months on Albion Street in Merchant city. Our 1 bed apartment wasn't the biggest but it was modern as is the whole building. It's a large building so there's generally always flats to let. There is secure underground parking with lifts up to your floor although not every flat has a space.
I personally wouldn't live anywhere else in town other than Merchant city if I were to move back.
At the moment we're currently a little outside the center, about a 10 minute walk to Merchant City. Here we have a two bed flat which is about twice the size over all for less money and lots of free parking so it's certainly worth considering.
If you want any more info drop me a pm.

You have a good budget. Depending on where you are working/don't mind a walk you should be able to get into Park area off woodlands road. Nice area.

Merchant City?
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Merchant_CityIf you look at a map of Glasgow it's roughly the area between George Square and High Street.
I'd say the areas between the boundaries of Albion St/Albion Gate (gated courtyard development), Ingram St, Watson St/Bell St and George Square are best - you'll see flats as far East as Greendyke St/Moir St and as far South as Clyde St/The River advertised as Merchant City but those locales might be a bit rough for a non-Glaswegian, being nearer Calton/The Barras.
If you don't want to go as far West as Woodlands/Park District (which I'd at least urge you to consider as it's quiet and upmarket on the whole), have a look at Garnethill area, just North of Sauchiehall St - parking is tighter up there but it's quite a quiet little pocket yet still very Central.
Avoid anywhere in close proximity to Central Station.
There's a homeless mission on Crimea Street and that end of town attracts a lot of junkies and jakes
Especially avoid any places on James Watt Street and York Street, unless of course you like prostitutes on your door step.
Its also important to know when any building you look at was converted to residential status. You won't be able to get a parking permit if the building was converted (or built) after Jan 2000. See here for more info

Hope this helps
