EVO Group Test shocker!
Discussion
Well, well, has Harris left or something?
1-R8
2-GTR
3-991S
'The R8 beats the 991 on subjective feel'
991;
'Theres a layer of gauze between you and the car'
'Rather aloof and cold'
'Lacking cohesion and sweet uniformity of weights'
'An inconsistency of connection'
'A general lack of detail through the wheel'
'Sounds like..looks like...but doesnt drive like a 911'
Have Porsche got it wrong then? Less feel than an Audi?!

It seems that the 991 is in some respects a backward step - sounds like the steering is the worst aspect.
I can imagine it will take Porsche 2 or 3 years before they get that properly sorted - but I am sure they will. I hope it is (at least) better sorted by the time the GT3 comes out.

There was one thing in the article that struck a chord with me - I've always maintained that the GTS is fun just to pootle around in and I find this one of the most appealing aspects of the car - the fact that it's always chatting away not matter how fast or slowly you're going. EVO says the new car lacks this which won't bother most owners but does them and I have to say it would bug me too!

Exactly. One of the largest customer bases is the Royal borough of Kensington & Chelsea, where husbands buy their well deserving wives new 911s for the school run. The car serves its purpose. To the rest of the Porsche buying population, it won't.
Exactly. Last time i went up Richmond Hill the amount of cars that weren't 997s you could count on one hand. Doubt any folk there will give a flying f*** about how much evoness the things got.
Pistonheads and car forums, folk who do trackdays or read evo ... these are all very very small bubbles.

Totally agree with this. I also think the 911 is a parody of what it once was.....but it won't matter to the MD making sofa's from Warrington, or the yummy from Richmond. To the rest of the Porsche buying population, it won't.
However, it has lost feel, and drives more like an RS6 saloon than a 911. For me, coupled with the fact it's now the size of the Isle of White, its a real shame.

Before you (implicitly) criticise the hardworking northern entrepreneur who's devoted his life to building a manaufacturing business, boosting the national economy and creating much needed employment locally, would it be a good idea to understand how to use the apostrophe correctly? Sofas, please. However, it has lost feel, and drives more like an RS6 saloon than a 911. For me, coupled with the fact it's now the size of the Isle of White, its a real shame.
I do agree with you about the car, by the way, but mind the stereotypes. Middle aged businessmen (even northerners) can enjoy a good hoon as much as the next man... or woman...
Funnily enough whilst the track is wider and the wheelbase longer, the actual dimensions on the car are no greater than the 997 (so i was told in the OPC the other day) and its lighter than the old car. Thus its a real shame that according to some journos its not as fun as fun as the old car. Although to be fair i am not sure that the basic 911s have been that much of an event since they went watercooled (excluding GT varients of course). Have to say i had a look at one in the OPC the other day and was impressed with the quality etc. Haven't driven one though, not sure i can be bothered really !

Sometimes I get the feeling that EVO test results are deliberately unexpected so as to be provocative (and presumably drive sales). Just a suspicion.
Sure you don't mean Autocar? They definitely do. No, it's evo, it's really not unexpected that the 911 is going to wipe the floor with everything else..
Wait a minute..
Not sure where the R8 came from in that article however, barely got a mention!
