Got a 52 plate Astra which had all sorts of problems with and iam ready to throw the towel in.
Its had a bit of a hard life but the timing belt has snapped and the head was rebuilt. Then the engine developed a bad smoking problem so the engine was changed.
Everything is good now but the EML light comes on and off and stores no fault, but i have had an auto spark look at it and he is saying that its an ghost fault in the ECU. The ecu has been away for testing and no fault found.
But iam thinking that they might no find a fault if its a ghost fault, the Ecu thinks there is a midfire in 1.3.4 cylinders when there is no misfire.
So anyone know what i can do now apart from scrapping it, good car when it works and wanna keep a hold of it.

Si is the car running ok
If it's coming up with random misfires but not storing codes the xe engines were bad to sticky valves
I assume you've ruled out coil packs plugs and leads etc
Yeah its had a new engine fitted and coil packs fitted, an auto spark has looked at it and downed the Ecu. He has tld us that the ecu has a ghost fault, the ecu thinks the car has a misfire over 3 cylinders and drops into limp mode but the car does not have a misfire, supposed to be a common fault on these engines. If it's coming up with random misfires but not storing codes the xe engines were bad to sticky valves

Any idea mate? new ecu?

Yeah we've done a few on these.
But normally it throws up a permanent fault. Has someone checked the main wiring loom as they were prone to break
Well had ecu checked and no fault found, so autospark has said get ecu back and fit Vauxhall plugs and he will check loom. But normally it throws up a permanent fault. Has someone checked the main wiring loom as they were prone to break
Wonder if its worth getting some fuel treatment into it aswell cheap fix
Engine smoking after head skimmed. Engine changed? Who rebuilt the engine? Sounds to me like they may have neglected to change the valve stem seals at the first rebuild? Not a big job, just fiddly ( I talk from personal experience).
What condition is the knock sensor? When the belt on my Astra went, the knock sensor was stripped exposing the copper wiring. Granted this may be nothing to do with the ghost misfire you are having but perhaps worth a check?
Lastly, stupid as this may seem, the EML light on my Astra still flickers on and off to this day, yet after my rebuild the car has run without problem.
I'll ask my mate about your experience when I get a chance.

Thanks for this Will get it checked. What condition is the knock sensor? When the belt on my Astra went, the knock sensor was stripped exposing the copper wiring. Granted this may be nothing to do with the ghost misfire you are having but perhaps worth a check?
