ALFORD sprint Sunday 18

Hi all,
Grampian Automobile Club will be holding a sprint at Alford on Sunday 18.
Event will start around 10am and finish about 4.30pm.
Chance to see all kinds of cars out on the wee track. Hopefully entry will be full (which is, I think around 70 cars)
Highlights will include: The Class 2 battle with the Rover 200 (around 200 bhp) doing battle against the smaller, nimbler but less powerful Fiestas.
Class three and the wide range of cars including the noisy, big, powerful, oversteering, wonderful monster of a sierra cosworth.
The road sports such as the 300bhp Vauxhall powered Caterham and the 'bike engined Westfields.
The single seaters, with varying engines from 'bike power to (hopefully- haven't seen finalised entries) 3.5 litre V8 Judd powered Pilbeams.
the highlight will, of course, be me. cursing the fact that i'm up against cars with 40bhp more than me!
(if anyone wants to get involved in the club they can see any member at the event or come along on saturday morning when we will be setting up)

Still it's a home fixture and I'm really looking forward to it.
See you there - look for the lilac MegaBlade in class 4 ... (is there an award for gayest car?

Yeh I got my entry list this morning. I have had to move classes due to the fact my car doesn't have an MoT at the moment.
Should be a good day if it stays dry.
It looks like rain I'm afraid ...

hi, i'm number 7. i have moved to modified saloons cos my MoT ran out so can't stay in road saloons with no MoT. (not enough time to get stuff sorted for MoT before sunday)
i'm about 18 miles from alford and right now it's wet. was pouring earlier on. fingers crossed it's dry!! i have no slip diff and traction is an issue.
doune in april was hairy with no diff. fighting the nose the whole time. junction into meadow was a full turn of opposite lock affair. in a front wheel drive fiesta.
last year at alford it rained late on and my car just understeers like nothing on earth there. the track is so flat the car just pushes on. lift off and the tail comes round too. and the front keeps pushing. not fun. and v.v.v.v.v.v.v.v..v.v.v.v.v.v. slow!

(don't know if you've been to alford before but the speed bumps on the way in are a pain. there is a sign to the museum on the way in to alford beside the antiques shop.
better NOT to go that way if you have anything low. if you're trailering, it'll be fine.
if you are driving you continue on. the road veers to the right. then take the next right, outside the alldays shop. then the next right beside the petrol station. there are speed bumps there but there are three in a row across the road. i find them easier to get over than the double ones at the other entrance.)

yes that was me!
long story. fiesta failed MoT. so can't run in road class. needs an MoT to run in modified.
was going to use my mini until my (stunningly generous) mate gave me his evo!!
hadn't even driven the car until saturday night! he's only had that car for about 2 weeks as well!!
went not bad. cheap road tyres weren't that great (he has trackday ones ordered) so it understeered a wee bit too much. tried being aggressive (to try to kill the understeer) on 2nd practice through the crossover and got v.v.v sideways! which was fun but slow.
drove more smoothly on timed runs and was better. concentrated on getting maximum speed on the straights (ie, exit speed) so my corner speeds were a bit down.
didn't want to go mental as it wasn't my car but happy with a 60.5.
how did your weekend go? i did wander over but you were talking to a guy and then i forgot to come back over.

It is accessible from Dyce (on the road signposted to Inverurie and Kinmuck i think it's the B977) or through Blackburn and then Hatton of Fintray. Blackburn is just off the A96.
The event will have a very busy entry and will include a number of very quick cars. We hope to be to have around 100 cars competing.
Expect the usual class battles with Minis battling for class one, the Fiestas and the Rover for class two and the Evo and the Cosworth in class three.
In each class there will be people fighting for the lower positions, having their own personal battles.
There will be a number of Caterhams and Westfields as well as the multitude of single seaters and classics.
The club have spent several weeks preparing the venue and we hope the event will be a big success.
Entry is £4 for adults and you can in fact touch the cars!! try that at a grand prix!!
If you want to get in for free AND get a free lunch, then turn up around 9am, grab a brush and a radio and marshal for the day!
