Thinking of a 911. Looking for a low mileage one that I could put 10k per annum on as a second car. I'd need to finance although I have a car allowance to use which will cover 2/3 of the cost. The questions is, am I better buying;
1. A generation 2 car from an OPc with guaranteed residual financing say a £50k car or
2. Buying a lower priced car from an independent say £35k with no guaranteed residual but with more flexibility to 'get out' of the car without being tied into a 3 year deal.

Financing costs are pretty similar if I do a pcp deal with an OPC or a straight line finance deal with an independent. Anyone done anything similar, any advice.? The thought of less 'debt' in the present austere times sounds more attractive.

any advice including funding gratefully received. I do have a car to p/ex so that is a limiting factor a little.

I'm picking my c2s up tomorrow and had exactly the same thoughts. I ended up buying the younger opc car. All I can say is haggle, haggle, haggle. After a week of "discussions" we dropped 4k off the sticker price and the apr on Porsche finance went from 9.8 apr to around 7.5% apr. Don't believe them when they say they can't move the apr figures!! That may not help but it may make the decision easier.

Thanks molar. Sounds like you got to where you needed to be. I've seen a really nice c4s but just not sure about running cost vs the c2s. For my money the newer c2's are the non s version. Really not sure.

Don't buy a c2 if you really want a c2s. I did and regretted it the minute I picked the car up!wouldn't imagine c4 is more expensive to run than c2s. I went to see all the cars I liked even if they were out of my price range and then started to haggle. Stop haggling when the saleman starts to cry :-)

I've just gone through a very similar process of thought and gone down the OPC route.

For £50k you will get a 997.2 with under 10k miles in as new condition and the security of the OPC warranty.

The end of term residual guarantee gives you certainty on depreciation which helps.

Agree re the haggle on price and APR, there is some scope for movement.
